Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mine), Dhanbad detailed review.

Placements: Civil Engineering placement states a placement percentage of 5 percent. The highest package is 36.5 LPA, the lowest package is 6 LPA, and the average package is 12.69 LPA. Top recruiters are Amazon, LnT, Nokia, Micron, Wipro Ltd, LTI-Mindtree, Tata Consultancy Services, Atkins, Alis, Mecon, JSW Energy, Greenko Group, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited, BPCL, and AFRY India Pvt Ltd.

Infrastructure: The hostel is decent and accommodates two people in one room. Mess facilities are brilliant, providing tasty and healthy food, including breakfast, lunch, tea, and dinner. Options for vegetarian, non-vegetarian, and Jain foods and special arrangements are made during fasting like Navratri, Savan, and Ramzaan month. Lecture hall complex and library are modern and well-equipped with ACs, Wi-Fi, and other facilities. Labs too have all the machines and instruments required.

Faculty: Teachers are very well educated. Most of them are quite helpful too. Course curriculum is very relevant, follows NEP. Multiple industry-relevant tools are in the curriculum, including MATLAB, STAAD, AutoCAD, etc. Semester exams are moderately difficult, sometimes hard. Around 90 percent of students clear without any backlogs.

Other: I chose this course as I'm targeting government jobs. The best thing is the specialisation the course offers and real-world problems you can solve. More interdisciplinary electives in economics, finance, or tech should be added to the course structure. There are two major fests in college, Tech Fest named Concetto, and cultural fest Srijan. The environment is electric on those fest days. The campus crowd is nice, good senior-junior bonding in college. Connectivity is decent, Dhanbad Railway station nearby, with trains to all major places across India. The closest Airports are Durgapur, Ranchi and Kolkata. Multiple scholarships in colleges from alumni, for economically deprived students, Ismaana, MCM, etc. Good extracurricular activities, two new grounds with all facilities are being constructed.

A glimpse of my life at IIT Dhanbad (ISM).

Placements: Placement states are quite good in our college and in my course also which is 76.92% of 48 students which is quite good. The highest package offered for my course is 38 LPA and the lowest package is 6 LPA. The average package is 13 LPA, which is decent. Top recruiting companies are Reliance, Sun Petrochemicals, Chevron, etc. Internships are decent but it is hard to get an internship in my field, but some got in non-core. The top roles offered are process engineer, project engineer, product engineer, etc.

Infrastructure: Since it is an old college which is completing its centenary in 2026, some old hostels are average but others are very good. Our college library is the world's second-largest technical library. It has 24-hour Wi-Fi and classrooms are quite good. Labs are conducted in a very strict way. All basic needs are available in our college. Ground, medical center and canteen all are available.

Faculty: Teachers are very friendly and teach us well. Their teaching style is a bit different as compared with others. About 14 weeks are allotted for a semester, which is enough to complete the syllabus and study. Some exams are very tough and some are a bit easy according to professors. The pass percentage is almost 90%.

Other: I love civil engineering, so I have opted for this course. There is a scholarship for merit students, i.e., MCM which offers Rs. 10,000 for a student. There are three major fests that happen in a year namely Concetto (tech fest), Srijan (cultural fest), and Parakram (sports fest). Some minor fests namely Turbulence, Khanan, etc., are also organised. The college life is quite good in my college.

I am absolutely satisfied because of the faculty members.

Placements: 60% of students get placements in the civil course. The highest package is 80 LPA, and the lowest package is 12 LPA. The average package is 18 Lacs. The top recruiting companies are Flipkart, Google, Amazon and Microsoft. 40-50% of students get internships.

Infrastructure: Facilites and the infrastructure available in my civil department are Wi-Fi, a digital board in the classroom, and lab equipment in the labs. The library has a good number of books by different authors. The quality of food in the mess is not that much good.

Faculty: Faculty members are well qualified having degrees from various IITs and NITs. They are very helpful. They are available during office hours and give us appropriate time for every student. The course curriculum is relevant because we get enough time after completion of the course.

Other: I opt this course because the best I was getting in JoSAA counseling was civil engineering from IIT Dhanbad (ISM). For the improvement of course, we can stick to the civil courses only.

Our college has good professors.

Placements: The percentage of the student in the campus interview is 30%. The highest salary package offered is 12 LPA. The lowest salary package offered is 4 LPA. Top recruiting companies are Amazon, Flipkart, HDFC, SBI Bank, etc.

Infrastructure: Our college's infrastructure is good. It provides value for education. The college is Wi-Fi enabled. The food served in the hostel is good and hygienic. We have a campus. The library is good. Our college has one of the largest libraries in India. The library has many books. Each hostel has a canteen.

Faculty: Our professors are highly educated and knowledgeable. They are helpful for projects. Their teaching skills are good. Some of them have experience. Our college has good professors. Semester exams are difficult. They conduct quizzes for 20 marks, so it is easy to score marks for the semester.

Definitely not my first choice, but satisfied with the college environment.

Placements: Out of 1,114 students who SAT in the placements, 993 got successful placements. The percentage of students is 69.97 in B.Tech and 54.13 in M.Tech. The average salary package offered is around 13.68 LPA. Around 184 PPOs and 284 internships are offered for the 2025 batch. The stipend offered is Rs. 75,000.

Infrastructure: Hostel rooms are decent. Cleanliness is also a priority of the authorities. The civil engineering department in the new academic complex consists of all the various equipment that are needed for experiments. They are useful in the groundwork of civil engineers.

Faculty: The curriculum consists of both common and branch-specific subjects. Exams are difficult as per the curriculum, and the marks are based on relative grading. The passing criteria is 75% of total attendance and is extremely compulsory.

IIT (ISM) Dhanbad is good for mining and other top branches.

Placements: At IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, placements for civil engineering are quite low compared to other branches. But in the future, there may be more scope for placements in civil engineering. At present, only a few companies come to the college for final-year placements.

Infrastructure: ISM's infrastructure is very green and eco-friendly. Classrooms are very nice and neat. ISM has the biggest library, with three floors full of books. The labs are very well-equipped; you can gain a lot of practical experience. All sports and games are available.

Faculty: The professors have vast knowledge and teach in an understandable way. They are very interactive. The curriculum and exams are perfect for engineering students. Semester exams are quite difficult; scoring a high CGPA is challenging for some students, but not for all.

Infrastructure, facilities, placements and fests are good.

Placements: In my course, students don't prefer to get placed in our department. Either they compete for any government exam or they go for non-core, which is coding or higher studies such as M.Tech. and Ph.D. so that they can get a high-quality job. But just from B.Tech, what I heard was that the package offered in Core was the highest package, at 12 LPA. And average was 6 LPA.

Infrastructure: The library is really good; they provide good internet facilities. Sport facilities are also good, but food is not that good. Sports facilities are so good even if you don't know any sport, the coaches are always ready to teach you from scratch, and you will never be told that you are not eligible for this sport.

Faculty: All the teachers are highly knowledgeable but some of them have very different ways of teaching that take some time to understand. Semester exams are not that hard to average. In our department, professors give numbers properly. And our college doesn't have any general criteria for passing percentage; everything is based on relatively high marks.

Other: The best thing about this course is my interest in it. My college has lots of fests sometimes, and my parents are like, you always have fests. I wish this course should be given more value by other department students and it's only possibility is good placement in this course.

IIT ISM : started in 1926 .

Placements: All batches consist of 1100–1200 students, consisting of different branches. As far as my branch is concerned, frankly, it has a lesser placement. But still, our average package remains at 11 lacs and the median is up to 10 lacs. Most of the students go to IT companies.

Infrastructure: The infrastructure is very nice. Well-equipped labs are there. A huge 4-floor story library. Again, hostels have two-bed rooms and they make sure of their cleanliness. Mess is inside the hostel itself and they follow the proper weekly menu and also take care of cleanliness and hygiene.

Faculty: Faculty are nice; they always try to teach something new. But the curriculum is too lengthy and irrelevant for points. Even if our college has relatively tough grading, semester exams are tough and their haphazard schedule makes it even tougher. Passing numbers are decided based on the performance of the whole class.

Other: I have to choose this course because it was allotted by JOSSA on the basis of my rank. College life is nice. They conduct multiple fests like cultural, tech, etc.
