IIT Jammu Admission Process 2026
IIT Jammu admission is a multi-step process. Starting with the application, students need to go through the course-specific entrance exam followed by other selection rounds (if applicable). After the selection rounds are over, students are required to go through the exam-specific counselling process for final seat allotment. Check below the steps to get a seat in IIT Jammu:
IIT Jammu Application Process 2026
Students seeking admission in IIT Jammu must submit the online application form for course-specific entrance exam or college depending on the course they wish to get into.
- For BTech course admission, aspirants need to complete the application form for JEE (Main) through the official website of the National Testing Agency (NTA) (nta.ac.in). The application fee for boys is INR 1,000 for male Gen/OBC candidates and INR 800 for female candidates for a single paper. SC/ST/PwD/Transgender candidates pay INR 500. Students must fill JEE Advanced application form, once JEE Main results are declared.
- MTech candidates are required to register for GATE through the official website of the GATE. Read more about GATE application process. The application fee for boys is INR 1000 for Female/SC/ST/PwD candidates and INR 2000 for all other candidates per paper. During extended registration period, fees increase to INR 1500 and 2500 respectively.
- For MSc, candidates need to complete the IIT JAM Application Form.
- To apply for a PhD at the Indian Institute of Technology Jammu, students must submit an online application through IIT Jammu official portal during active admission cycles. The application fees is INR 300 (INR 200 for SC/ ST/ PwD).
Selection Process
Aspirants need to have JEE Advanced scores for BS/ BTech and GATE scores for MTech. Admission to MSc programme is based on IIT JAM scores of the candidates. The selection for PhD is based on CSIR/ UGC/ NBHM/ DBT/ ICAR/ ICMR/ ICPR scores. Aspirants may also have to appear for written test/ interview for MTech.
Candidates must score equal or above IIT Jammu cutoff in the accepted entrance exam for admission. After the selection rounds are completed, candidates need to go through the course-wise counselling process for final seat allotment.
Counselling & Seat Allotment
BTech applicants are allotted seat via JoSAA Counselling. MTech aspirants have to participate in COAP Counselling for admission. Candidates have to participate in IIT JAM Counselling for a seat in MSc. For all other courses, candidates have to participate in institute-level admission proces. Shortlisted candidates need to report at the campus for document verification. Aspirants also need to pay the IIT Jammu fees to confirm their seat.
IIT Jammu Fee Refund Policy
For BTech admissions at IIT Jammu, fee refunds for seat withdrawal before registration are governed by JoSAA rules. Check below fee refund criteria for BTech at IIT Jammu:

IIT Jammu Seat Reservation Criteria
IIT Jammu follows the standard category-wise seat reservation policy mandated by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, for all central educational institutions. The reservation percentages are given below:
- Open (Unreserved): 40.5% of the total available seats for all candidates.
- OBC-NCL: 27% of seats reserved for Other Backward Classes (Non-Creamy Layer).
- SC: 15% of seats reserved for Scheduled Castes.
- ST: 7.5% of seats reserved for Scheduled Tribes.
- GEN-EWS: 10% of seats reserved for Economically Weaker Sections.
Additional Quotas
- PwD: 5% horizontal reservation is carved out within every main category (Open, OBC, SC, ST, EWS) for persons with benchmark disabilities.
- Female Supernumerary: Extra seats are created specifically for female candidates to maintain gender-balance targets without reducing general/reserved availability.

IIT Jammu MTech Admission 2026
IIT Jammu offers a two-year MTech programme at the PG level. The course is divided into four semesters. The institute offers MTech in Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, Bioscience and Bioengineering and other sub-specialisations. Admission to this course is based on a GATE score followed by COAP counselling. Aspirants must complete their graduation to apply for MTech programmes.

The minimum eligibility required is a bachelor's degree in Engineering or Science (4-year course) or a master's degree in Science with 60%-65% aggregate. Relaxation of 5% aggregate or 0.5 CPI is offered to SC/ST/PwD category candidates on the minimum eligibility score.
