A Journey of Choices, Challenges, Change, and Contemplation: My College Journey at HIT
From Doubt to Determination: My Journey of Choosing the Right Stream
Until Class 10, I was an average-performing student. The COVID-19 pandemic led to the cancellation of my board exams for Class 10. So, I did not get the opportunity to examine my strengths. I scored 89% marks, but honestly, I did not know if I deserved it or not. That made me doubt myself a lot, especially when it came to choosing my career. Initially, I wanted to pursue the Science stream. However, I felt hesitant about it. So, I opted for the Humanities stream and enrolled in coaching classes for all subjects. After several months, I realised this path was unsuitable for me, and I just could not connect with the subjects.
Choosing a stream turned out to be one of the toughest decisions of my life. Finally, I decided to transition to Science (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Biology), as I wanted to discover my capabilities. At first, I was told that Science would be tough, which made me feel a bit anxious. But after a few months, I started enjoying the subjects and found them genuinely interesting.
Navigating Uncertainty: My Challenging Year in BSc Mathematics
At that time, I did not know much about competitive exams like JEE Main and NEET. I passed Class 11 without any solid preparation for entrance exam. In Class 12, I focused on my board exams and scored 80%. Unfortunately, I could not get a good rank in the entrance exams that year. With no option left, I took admission in BSc in Mathematics at Panskura Banamali College. But, I could not find any interest in the subjects. Every single day felt like a struggle. That was the most difficult year for me.
Recognising the need for a change, I decided to reappear for the WBJEE exam the following year. Fortunately, I achieved a good rank this time. During the WBJEE counselling process, my first preference was the Kalyani Government Engineering College (KGEC). But, I could not get it in the first round. Since, I was not able to get an EWS certificate, I had to enrol in the first round of counselling. So, I got admitted to Haldia Institute of Technology.
Beyond Homesickness: Embracing Hostel Life and Coding at Haldia Institute of Technology
I faced some challenges during the initial days at college. It was my first experience of living away from my family. On the first day, we dedicated 2-3 hours solely to introducing ourselves to one another. Eventually, everyone became acquainted.
Our college journey started with a two-day orientation program and a campus visit program with our mentor. This college has one of the best campuses in West Bengal. It is huge, and the greenery around it makes it even more beautiful. It offers a refreshing atmosphere. The first semester was a mix of fun and difficulties.
Life in a hostel offers an entirely unique experience, brimming with enjoyment, late-night conversations, and memorable times shared with peers and seniors. Our seniors and teachers are friendly and welcoming. During the initial two months, the seniors organised a workshop to familiarise us with Coding. We actually started gaining interest in coding only through that workshop.
A Semester of Growth: Academics, Sports, and New Experiences at Haldia Institute of Technology
One of the best things about this college is the clubs. These clubs help us bond with seniors and make the whole college experience way more enjoyable. The first semester presented a blend of enjoyment and challenges. The first semester was a mix of fun and difficulties. We had two class assessments, which complicated our time management. Additionally, we participated in an intra-college football tournament. While our team did not achieve the desired results, we gained valuable experience. I achieved a 9.3 SGPA in my first semester, which gave me a strong sense of satisfaction about my academic accomplishments.
As we commence the second semester, we are super excited for the forthcoming intra-college cricket tournament. Our primary objective this time is to achieve success in the competition.
Looking Back and Moving Forward: My College Journey So Far
Reflecting on my college experience so far, I can genuinely recognise the significant impact it has had on my personal development. Each day presents opportunities to meet new individuals, forge friendships, acquire new knowledge, and encounter experiences I never anticipated. Being surrounded by such great professors is also adding immense value to my journey.
I never thought I would enjoy my college life this much. But, here I am, growing, learning, and creating memories. I want to reminisce about the crazy times, the challenges, and the triumphs after four years. My goal is to land a great job with a good salary package. I want to keep learning and exploring new opportunities.
Although the road has been unexpected so far, I am prepared for whatever is ahead!
