A Journey of Choices, Challenges, Change, and Contemplation: My College Journey at HIT
From Self-Doubt to Determination
I was an average-performing student till class 10. I scored 89% marks in boards, but because it was covid year. That pushed me into self doubt when it came to choosing my career. I opted for the Humanities stream because science I felt wasn;t my cup of tea. But after a few months, I realised that I made a wrong decision and these subjects just weren't for me.
But then, I shifted again to science stream inspite of harsh criticism. I felt it wound't go right, but then literally started enjoying all the subjects.
My Challenge: BSc Mathematics
I majorly focused on NCERT concepts and didn't bother to prepare for any competitive exams like JEE MAINS. I cleared class 12 with 80% marks in boards and joined BSc Mathematics due to a low rank in entrance exams. And this decision too proved to be a wrong one. With no other option left, I focused on entrance exams. Cleared WBJEE and enrolled into Haldia Institute West Bengal.
The time period required to complete the JEE Main preparation depends mainly on the students. Every student has their own pace of study. Ideally, 6-month time is good enough to complete the JEE Main preparation. Students who have started preparing from class 11 or 12 can easily prepare for JEE Main in 6 months considering the topics of JEE syllabus have already been studied in classes 11 and 12.
JEE Main preparation is most effective with classes 11 and 12 as almost 90-95 percent of topics are similar in both exams. This way students can easily complete the entire JEE Main syllabus as well as the syllabus of classes 11 and 12. After the board exams, students get 1-2 months' time where they can focus entirely on JEE Main. Students who have started late for the JEE Main exam can make a 6-month plan where in the first three months they have to focus on revising the syllabus studied in classes 11 and 12. In the next two months focus on solving questions of JEE Main and analyzing the mistakes being made, if any. The last month should be focused on solving mock tests and JEE Main previous year question papers.
Beyond Homesickness: Embracing Hostel Life and Coding at Haldia Institute of Technology
I faced some challenges during the initial days at college. It was my first experience of living away from my family. On the first day, we dedicated 2-3 hours solely to introducing ourselves to one another. Eventually, everyone became acquainted.
Our college journey started with a two-day orientation program and a campus visit program with our mentor. This college really had a very beautiful campus with greenery everywhere.
Life in a hostel was something worth remembering, where we learned to know ourselves. Everyone around us was sweet and welcoming. Their guidance made us interested in coding too.
WBJEE is held offline as a pen and paper based test. Students have to report to centre and attempt exam in an OMR sheet. Out of the given options for each question, student will have to mark correct one with their pen and submit it.
WBJEE will be held as a multiple choice examination. Every question will have multiple options, and students will have to select correct answer.
A Semester of Growth at Haldia Institute of Technology
This college really has very good club activities which allowed us to explore our interests and interact with the seniors. First semester was full of new experiences. We got familiar with practical assessments and I achieved a 9.3 SGPA in that semester, which boosted my moral. Then we aimed for cricket tournaments of the next semester.
My College Experience So Far
College Really had a major role in shaping my personality. I worked on myself, got a chance to meet new people and gained new experiences which will be cherished for lifetime. I never thought I would enjoy my college life this much. teachers were really supportive too. Everyone supported me really much. Now my only goal is to secure a good package in a reputed IT Firm.
