Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology

I was a topper of my school from 1st standard. Being one of the school topper, I had to justify the Indian mentality and choose Science in +2. Honestly, I always wanted to become a Doctor, but all thanks to my mathematics teacher in school that I gained much interest in the subject and chose PCM over biology. However, my father and brother had given me a choice between science and commerce, but scoring 10 CGPA* boosted my confidence to opt for Non-Medical stream. And I think I took the right decision. I couldn’t have justified any other stream but Science (Non-Medical). Though I found Science competitive sometimes, but it was there somewhere in my mind that ‘I can do it, no matter what.’

My College Admissions

Honestly, I was never interested in Engineering. Basically, I might have also opted to pursue some Honors from Delhi University. The only motive I had in 12th was to score above 90%.  I didn’t even prepare much for JEE Mains. However, I cleared Mains by “God’s Grace”.

My father was interested in engineering. Although, he never forced me but somewhere in his heart, he was happy with my decision. So, as I cleared JEE Mains, he started filling the college application forms. I didn’t bother much and left everything on him. I still cannot believe that I managed to crack the very popular and the most competitive engineering entrance exam in the country. May be I was lucky enough.

Then, everyone started advising me to go for engineering instead of honors. Even I felt that since I have managed to crack the nut in Mains, let’s not leave the opportunity. So, Thapar was the best option available according to my scores.

After all this, I can now believe on the fact that Yes! One’s destiny is pre-defined, you never know what has been planned for you!

My College Life

Each one of us realize that college plays a very crucial role in our lives and there are certain rudimentary things which becomes a part of our life. These can be anyone or anything that includes our friends, mischievous activities, boring lectures and things to sustain the hostel life. But each college encompasses something that is distinct from the rest and in these past months, Thapar made me come upon this realization that my journey so far has been something that satiates a person’s thirst of studying in a good university in bits and pieces.

I am glad for the reputation that our institution holds across the globe. Moreover, there could not have been a better place to do your college and experience the versatile culture.

I have joined many societies in Thapar. So, most of my time is utilized in doing society’s work. In Thapar, a lot of events are lined-up throughout the year. There are many events occurring simultaneously that sometimes it becomes hard to decide which one to attend. An excited person can never sit idle in their hostel room. I am in most of the organizing committee of these societies.

Honestly, with 78% in boards, getting into Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology through the board merit route is quite difficult.

Cutoffs (especially for popular branches) usually go much higher.

You might have a slight chance in:

  • Biotechnology
  • Civil / Chemical (in later rounds, if seats remai

Yes, you can get admission in Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology 👍

With 80 percentile (JEE) + 90% boards:

  • CSE/COE → unlikely
  • ECE/ENC → difficult but maybe in later rounds
  • Mechanical / Electrical → possible
  • Civil / Chemical / Biotech → good chances

Your 90% boards will help in the board merit
