How to start JEE Preparation in Class 10th: Check time table and tips
In today’s scenario, the craze for JEE Mains and JEE Advanced has definitely gone up by leaps and bounds. The number of test takers are increasing every year. Apart from this, the number of aspirants starting their preparations at an early stage have increased too. Previously, the aspirants used to start their preparation either in Class 11th or after that but now some of the aspirants start it right from Class 8th. The number of aspirants starting their preparation in Class 10th is a lot now. The students who start out early need a very good guidance because they are not much aware at that time and they have board exams in the same year too. Thus, striking a balance is very important for them. Here we will now discuss at length about how one should start their JEE preparation in Class 10th.
How to start and choose books for JEE preparation in Class 10th:
From the very beginning you need to be clear about the books that you would use for boards and for JEE and about how you would divide your time so that you don’t ruin either of the two:
Explore colleges based on JEE Main
- Don’t start with extremely tough JEE books in Class 10th itself. Rather, you can start with basic books like HC Verma.
- You can get study material from a renowned JEE coaching institute which is specific to Class 10th. They will give you the best estimate of the kind of material that you need for JEE preparation while in Class 10th.
- You might go for the foundation books by Arihant or TMH. The foundation books give a good mix of both boards and JEE preparation.
Once you explore the above options for books, you must make sure that you have one material for boards and an another one for JEE. Don’t get too many books for either of the two.
Once you have chosen the books, the next important step is making a timetable to strike a balance and do equally well in boards and JEE.
Making a timetable for JEE preparation in Class 10th
You should perfect your basics and lay a good foundation in Class 10th. In Class 10th you wouldn’t be able to start JEE preparation in a full-fledged manner so forming a good base and preparing yourself for the actual preparation in Class 11th and onwards should be your objective. Starting preparation in Class 10th would also help you in starting Class 11th portions early. So keeping these as the target, here is how you should make your timetable:
- First, start with your school books and go over the basics nicely.
- Then, start the same topic from your JEE material and try solving as many questions as possible.
- Aim to give a test from your JEE material once in 15 days and make sure that the paper pattern is same as that of JEE.
- Keep a day per week for revising both school and JEE syllabus and for covering any possible backlogs that might have built up through the week.
- Aim to finish Class 10th portions by December end and start some Class 11th portions from January. They can be complete basics but it is advisable to start them.
- From January, keep revising Class 10th portions for your final exams and side by side start the Class 11th portions however, make sure that you prioritize the Class 10th final exams that would be just round the corner then.
- As soon as Class 10th exams are over, you can dive into JEE preparations in a full-fledged manner. You can take a small break before doing so to keep yourself thoroughly motivated while you are just starting with actual JEE preparations.
The above will help you sail through your Class 10th exams as well as JEE preparations. By the time Class 10th ends, you would have a good edge over a lot many students. Make sure to complete the foundation material of Class 10th and your school books on time without taking too much pressure. A balance is all that you need!
