I find brick and mortar classes more interesting and enjoyable: Anshuman, LPU
These are first-hand student accounts on how our young population is managing to keep their exam prep or college course work going from the confines of their homes. In case you want to share your lockdown study experience, write to us at publish@shiksha.com.
Q: How are you making the most of the current situation with respect to your prep schedule?
A: We are facing the most difficult time these days because we are not able to attend our classes. Also, we are not in direct touch with our faculty members and friends. So, we may find it hard sometimes and can be fed up with this situation. But this is the time which can be utilized to polish our skills or to learn new technology. I have enrolled in different courses that are provided for free by Progate, NPTEL and several others which are in collaboration with MHRD. The government also wants a student’s time should not be wasted and so they providing access to several courses.
This is the time to be self-motivated and keep doing our work with full dedication. We should follow a timetable these days because we are getting so much leisure time and should follow that strictly to get success in our set goal.
Q: What are the major differences in the experience of attending an online class and a brick and mortar class? What do you find more enjoyable?
A: A lot of differences can be observed between a virtual class and a real class. The class which happens inside a classroom is a lot more interactive and provide proper communication with the teacher and helps the student a lot in understanding his syllabus. If a student faces a doubt in a classroom, he can ask at that time only and can make his concept clear while an online class is not much interactive. Whereas, in online classes, there is no one-to-one interaction, which sometimes makes it boring and we don’t feel that we are studying because we don’t feel any pressure. I find brick and mortar classes more interesting and enjoyable because we are surrounded by our friends and we feel more comfortable when we are with them. We are free to ask a question at any point in time.
Q: Would you prefer to opt for online classes if given a choice? What are the advantages and disadvantages of each- online and offline?
A: I prefer offline classes because of the quality of education that we get in offline mode. We don’t get the same in online mode. Each type has its advantages and disadvantages.
Advantages of offline classes:
- The biggest advantage is that we do one-to-one interaction and can clear our doubts more efficiently.
- There is more interaction with our classmates and helps us to understand things more clearly.
Disadvantages of offline classes:
- There is pressure to answer the question when asked and there is no freedom. We have to behave in a disciplined manner inside a classroom.
- We have to stick to the timetable and have to be present every day to understand the concepts because if we miss any day lecture then nobody is going to make us understand.
Advantage of online classes:
- The biggest advantage of offline classes is that we can learn from our place, and at any time.
- There is more freedom and we feel less pressure.
- If we are watching a video, we can repeat it n number of times until we understand it.
Disadvantages of online classes:
- There is no face-to-face interaction in these types of classes.
- The most irritating part is the network problem due to which we suffer a lot.

At Lovely Professional University, you can take admission in BTech CSE through their own test called LPUNEST or based on your 12th marks.
JEE is not compulsory, but if you have a good JEE score, it can help you get admission and scholarship.
