Know all about BTech Programme from BIT Mesra - Admissions, Placement & Fees

Shiksha recently had an interaction with top experts from BIT Mesra wherein the experts talked in detail about the BTech Programme - admission process, eligibility criteria and fees, placements and recruiting companies, among other things. Read on to find out a few pertinent facts about BIT Mesra and all that an aspiring BTech student would be keen to know.

Q. Why should one choose the BTech Program from BIT Mesra?

Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra - BIT is a global name. It was established in the year 1955 by Mr. B.M Birla.

• One of the most premier engineering destinations in India
• It has awarded graduates degree to over 18,000 students

Q. Can you elaborate on the eligibility criteria and admission process? Do you have any management quota?

BTech is for four years. The selection is done based on AIR in JEE-Main through CSAB (Central Seat Allocation Board) / JoSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority). Interested candidates should have scored at least 75% of marks in their higher secondary examinations. 

Also, PCM i.e. Physics, Chemistry and Maths are compulsory.

Sorry, we do not have any quota system.

Q. Is BIT Mesra affiliated to BITS Pilani? What is the difference between Mesra campus and off campuses?

Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra is deemed to be University and BITS Pilani is a separate entity.

There is no such difference as you will get the same degree. These are the extension centers of BIT Mesra.

Q. How are the teachers in BIT Mesra?

We are known for having excellent teachers who work tremendously hard for the betterment of the students. Students share an open bond with the faculties and other staff members. Everybody puts in their very best to make the institute a great place to live and learn.

Q. Which degree will be more appropriate, BE or BTech in Computer Science? Do you have any provision of lateral entry?

BTech in Computer Science followed by IT. As of now, there is no provision of lateral entry.

Q. What about the campus? What facilities are provided? Are there any sports facilities? If yes, how is the environment?

BIT ensures that discipline is properly coupled with a more than adequate share of fun and excitement.

• The campus is self-contained with excellent hostel facilities and hangout zones.
• BIT hosts several extracurricular activities, necessary for the overall healthy development of the young mind.
• It has a beautiful sports complex with a modern stadium for track courts and field events.

Q. Are there hostels available? What about the food? Is veg food provided? Is there a gym on the campus?

Yes, we do have hostel facilities and it is amazing.

We provide good quality food at BIT Mesra. Both vegetarian, as well as non-vegetarian food, will be there.

Absolutely! We have a very big stadium with all the sports facilities along with an advanced multi gym.

Q. What is the fee structure of the programme? Is there any fee exemption for students whose family income is less than 1 lakh? Do you offer any scholarship?

The fee for every semester is Rs. 1.25 Lakhs approximately. As of now, we do not have such facilities but candidates can apply for scholarships once admissions are done. We do offer GP Birla Scholarship.

Q. What is GP Birla scholarship? What is the maximum amount of scholarship?

GP Birla Scholarship is an Institutional fellowship for meritorious students. We provide both full and partial tution waiver. 

Q. What about the placement details? What is the highest salary offered so far?

BIT Mesra has a good record for providing placement to the right candidate. As of now, Placement details is somewhere around 85-90%.

The highest salary offered was 41LPA and the average was 10.4 LPA.

Q. Do companies visit the campus for recruitments? What is the number of recruiters this year? Which are the companies that regularly visit BIT Mesra? How many students were recruited this year?

Yes, BIT Mesra welcomes recruiters every year.

The number of recruiters keeps on varying from year to year. This year the total number of recruiters were 141 out of which 33 recruiters visited BIT campus fir the first time.

Investment Banks to Consulting and Analytics, Automobile to Heavy Engineering and Infrastructure, IT Product to IT Services companies visited the campus and recruited from the BIT talent pool.
