Meet IIT Dhanbad students who received whopping job offers from Bloomberg London
Despite the Covid-19 pandemic, which has resulted in thousands of job losses, two students of IIT ISM Dhanbad have been offered a whopping salary package of Rs 83.5 lakh per annum from Bloomberg London. Shiksha talks to the students to know about their experience and tips for someone who wants to become a software engineer. Let’s read what they have to say.
Abhinav Bajpai, 22, who completed his Dual Degree in Computer Science Engineering at IIT ISM Dhanbad in April, says, “I have received an offer of Rs 83.5 lakh per annum from Bloomberg London. This is an off-campus opportunity and I have accepted this offer. I have been appointed as a financial software engineer and asked to join the company in August. Bloomberg has selected 10-15 students from India and we all will be flying to the United Kingdom together.”
Abhinav, who did his schooling from Atomic Energy Central School, Indore, says, “I also received an offer from ByteDance Singapore. They were offering me Rs 66 lakh per annum package. Apart from that, Salesforce in Hyderabad had offered me Rs 32.5 lakh per annum.”
He says, “The recruitment process contained four virtual rounds wherein my knowledge regarding data structures and algorithms was tested. No question on core CSE was asked. Your internship experience increases your chances of getting shortlisted. I have done six internships in my field, which actually helped me in getting this job.”
He shared some tips based on his personal experience:
Build your resume: If you are aiming to pursue a career in software engineering, start building your resume from now. Try to do as many projects and internships as you can.
Focus on data structures, algorithms: Try to focus on data structures and algorithms as interviews are generally focused on these two.
Demonstrate your problem-solving skills: Develop a solid approach to solve problems. This will make you more marketable to employers.

From being an intern to becoming an employee, Banipreet shares his journey with Bloomberg
Banipreet Raheja from the same batch as Abhinav’s also received the same package of Rs 83.5 LPA from Bloomberg London.
Banipreet, 24, did his schooling from St Francis’ College, Lucknow, and will be travelling to a foreign land for the first time in his life. He gives credit of his success to his parents and two sisters.
He says, “I will join Bloomberg London as a software engineer trainee in August. I did a three-month internship with Bloomberg Pune in 2020 at the end of which I was given a pre-placement offer. Initially, I was given an offer in India, but later it was converted and I was asked to report in London.”
Apart from Bloomberg, Banipreet also received a job offer from Nutanix where he interned for six months, but he did not accept the offer. He has done three internships while studying, i.e. with Arista, Bloomberg and Nutanix, which he thinks has played an important part in his recruitment process. He says, “During internships, companies see your calibre and the way you take up a problem and work on it. They make you work like a full-time employee.”
Below are some of the tips he shared based on his personal experience:
Internships matter: Internship is one of the best options that helps you get a job in a particular company. It teaches you what kind of work you will be doing once you get a job.
Practice coding: Apart from focusing on data structures and algorithms, it is important that you practice coding.
Effective communication skills: Work on your communication skills as it is noticed during interviews. You should be able to clearly articulate what you do.
