Sourabh Shukla shares how he cracked JEE Main to secure admission in BTech in Mechanical Engineering at University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET), Kurukshetra University.

University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET), Kurukshetra University

From the beginning, I had interest in Science. So after my 10th class, I opted for the non-medical field and to get that, I initially gave an entrance test in Tagore Academy in Sector-3, Ballabhgarh. With the basic knowledge of Science, I cleared the test and took admission in 11th class. The 11th standard course curriculum was the usual Physics, Chemistry and Maths as core subjects.

After getting 89.4% in 12th and on the basis of the JEE-Mains rank, I got the opportunity to get admission in UIET Kurukshetra, reasons being that the college was near to my residence and also has a good reputation.

Exam tips and my admission journey

I secured 154 marks in the JEE-Mains exam and got 52,018 rank. Hence, I got admission in UIET, Kurukshetra University.

Apart from JEE-Mains, I also gave tests of JEE-Advanced and BITSAT. For the entrance exams, I didn't opt for any coaching classes. For all these exams, I studied the basics and did self-study, and as a result, I secured good marks in my entrance exams.

I believe that the best way to prepare for the entrance exams is self-study and to give yourself enough time to revise the topics. I also suggest that apart from self-study, the students should also solve the test series in order to analyse the level of their preparation.

My Learnings and Insight

My college not only taught me lessons in the technical world, but also taught me a way of living life. It helped me in improving my skills in different fields.

On the basis of those skills, I got placed in Adani Gas and I am currently working in this company. Adani has given me enough industrial exposure and a good environment to work in.

My college life was truly a turning point in my life.

From the beginning, I was interested in doing mechanical work, and so, I took the mechanical branch in BTech. Now in Adani, I work at the post of Mechanical Project Engineer. So yes, I can say that I chose the right career for myself.

You see, life is the process of making mistakes and learning from those mistakes. One mistake that I regret about the most is that I didn't apply for NCC in my 2nd year because of my carelessness and it gave me a lesson that being lazy could stop you from reaching your goal. And so, I learned from it.

Talking about the college education, in mechanical, there are subjects like Thermodynamics, Dynamics of Machines and Automobile Engineering. These are the subjects which are very much related to the work in industries, so these subjects and the education provided by the college helped me give my 100 percent.

Honestly speaking, I listened to my heart on many occasions and I feel that it worked for me. As an engineer, I would suggest that an individual must take that branch in which he/she is interested in from the very beginning.
