Q: Do you think overall online education is sustainable? Will it need to be supplemented with offline interventions as well?

A: The online education system is currently not sustainable and it needs time for getting permanent sustainability. It also depends on place to place. Like people who live in India, they prefer the traditional way of learning like going to classes, interacting with faculty members, socializing with friends, etc. Also, proper internet connectivity is required for online education which is a very problematic task because many people in villages don’t have a phone also. Cheaper internet connection, low-cost mobiles should be made available to the student to gain popularity among the online education system. But for places like America, the New York online education system is very sustainable because children there are freer and they also do part-time jobs, so for them, it is beneficial because they can learn whenever they want and they appreciate these types of technology. Also, internet connectivity is not a big issue there. Offline intervention is a must and it should be clubbed with the online system to provide a good method of teaching.

Q: What are the changes or add-ons required for online classes to flourish?

A: The required add-ons are:

  • The full-fledged research program, capstone project should be made available for the student to gain popularity among online courses.
  • Courses should be available in multiple accesses so that a broader section of students can access the courses.
  • The content should be more practical based rather than theory because the student can understand better when they implement the things.
  • Online classes should also run some financial aid programs so that weaker sections of students can also take advantage of these classes.
  • Talented students should be given some internship if they complete the classes with good grades.

Q: How can the feel of physical classrooms be incorporated here?

A: A student must sit in a disciplined manner and should behave like he/she is sitting in a classroom. He/she should fully concentrate during the online classes and try to understand the things better. Parents should also see that their children are studying through online mode and they should not disturb him/her by thinking it is an online class and he/she can attend it anytime. A proper classroom-like atmosphere should be created before attending online classes.
