The placement drives usually comprise four rounds — Aptitude Test, Technical Test, Group Discussion and Personal Interview. Yash Singhal shares some key tips to ace these four rounds of placements.

Placements are the most crucial aspect of any professional course. Without placements, the outcome of completing any academic programme is just a degree certificate that can be preserved at home, with no impact on your future goals. In this article, we’ll try to cover some essential preparation tips to keep in mind for securing good placements.

Most important preparation tip for placements is to stay prepared for the all that you have studied during your course. Prepare thoroughly for the reasoning and quantitative aptitude section. This is vital for you to clear the round one of most placement drives. The aptitude round is meant to segregate the serious candidates from the remaining crowd during placements. Placement drives usually consist of three rounds primarily:

  • Aptitude test
  • Technical Test
  • Group Discussion
  • Personal Interview

To prepare for the technical round, make all your concepts crystal-clear and revise all that you have studied in the penultimate year of your course. Most of the questions in the technical round are asked from the third and fourth year of engineering.

After preparing for these two rounds, start with your preparation for Group Discussion (GD). You can join any coaching class or you can approach your placement cell so that you can practice along with an actual group of students for the GD. In my college, there is no such cell, and I have to opt for the coaching instead. However, in other institutes, the placement cells assist students with their placement preparation and other formalities related to the campus drives.

Most cells arrange for companies to come and visit there campus for the recruitment drives. These cells not only provide you guidance and support for on-campus drives but also help you to appear in off-campus placements organized by various companies. The motive of the placement cells is to ensure that their students join the top companies in their domain at a respectable salary package.

The personal interview (PI) or the HR round is the easiest among all placement rounds and after you clear all the three rounds, your selection is almost ensured. In this round, you are required mostly to answer what is mentioned in your resume. There might be some technical questions as well but they don’t impact your selection as much and be honest with your responses. The HR wants to assess your confidence level and ability to relate all that you have mentioned in the resume.

The criteria is different for different companies. For example, in Samsung and Siemens, the HR round is the most crucial one. Don’t worry, these details will be provided to you by the placement cell to you before scheduled campus drive.
