Telangana: Additional engineering seats from this session

Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad has increased the number of engineering seats in the state of Telangana by 3000. As per the information released by Navin Mittal, commissioner of state’s collegiate education, the number has raised upto 84,124 in comparison to 81,186 seats last year. As many as 94,592 qualified candidates will be eligible to grab seats this year, admissions to which have begun from today, May 28.

Owing to the initiative, this is the first time when the seat count in the state is more than the number of qualified candidates. Apart from JNTUH colleges, 11 engineering colleges in the state affiliated to Osmania University with a total count of 6,260 approved seats and four Kakatiya University affiliated colleges with a total of 1,800 seats will also be available. This has raised the total count of engineering seats in the state up to 95,235. Out of the total count, 64,566 seats will be offered through Convener quota and 30,669 are reserved for management quota.

Furthermore, the count of engineering colleges being granted the approval of All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) has also increased this year. A total of 228 colleges in the state with an intake of 1,14,247 have been granted AICTE approval till date.  

On the contrary, the number of affiliated colleges has witnessed a drop this year.  As per information, last year a few colleges were not granted permission due to certain shortcomings such as lack of PhD qualified teachers. However, a few of these colleges have made up to the list by fulfilling the set norms which has eventually resulted in the rise of seats.
