NCHMCT JEE 2022 section-wise prep tips

NCHMCT JEE is one of the most popular hotel management entrance exams that is conducted in India. Since the NCHMCT JEE is the means through which aspirants can secure admission to the Institutes of Hotel Management (IHMs), candidates need to ensure that the NCHMCT JEE preparation strategy is in place.

Till 2018, the exam was conducted by National Council for Hotel Management and Catering Technology (NCHMCT). However, from 2019 onwards National Testing Agency (NTA) has been conducting the NCHM JEE exam.

NCHMCT JEE 2026 exam pattern includes five components: Numerical Ability and Analytical Aptitude, Reasoning and Logical Deduction, General Knowledge & Current Affairs, English Language, and Aptitude for Service Sector.

On the basis of an aspirant’s score/rank in NCHMCT JEE (Joint Entrance Exam), they can secure admission in – Central Institutes of Hotel Management, State Government Institutes of Hotel Management, Public Sector Undertaking, Private Institutes of Hotel Management and Food Craft Institutes.

NCHMCT JEE exam is of three hours duration wherein aspirants need to attempt 200 questions. There is a provision for Negative marking in NCHMCT JEE exam and candidates are advised to solve the question paper with utmost care. NCHMCT JEE 2026 Tips for Numerical Ability and Analytical Aptitude Section

This section consists of 30 questions. The questions asked here try to test the candidate’s knowledge of basic Mathematics and Science. Aspirants can study Science and Maths NCERT textbook of Class 9 and Class 10 to prepare for this section. Apart from this, candidates can also go through the below-mentioned books to ace this section of NCHMCT JEE:

  • RS Aggarwal (Quantitative Aptitude)

Some topics that one must study to perform well in the Numerical Ability and Analytical Aptitude section of NCHMCT JEE are number system, profit and loss, percentages, averages, simple interest, compound interest, time-speed-distance, geometry and the like.

NCHMCT JEE 2026 Tips for Reasoning and Logical Deduction Section

A total of 30 questions are asked in this section. Questions asked in this section try to test the reasoning power and deduction skills of aspirants. Questions in this section are regularly asked on topics such as blood relations, counting of figures, mathematical operations and reasoning, codes, completion of figures and series, Venn diagrams, data sufficiency, data interpretation, etc.

A piece of advice worth considering here is to learn squares, cubes as well as percentage equivalents of fractions as well as other techniques of approximations. Doing this would help aspirants eliminate options quickly and thereby arrive at the correct answer faster.

However, candidates need to note that analytical skills cannot be developed overnight and require regular practice by solving different questions. Thus, here candidates must practise questions from topics such as syllogisms, statement assumptions, logical consistency and numerical series.

NCHMCT JEE 2026 Tips for General Knowledge & Current Affairs Section

This section also carries 30 questions and to fare well in this section, one needs to be well aware of important awards, sports events, history, geography and recent happenings (current as well as events that happened almost a year before the exam).

To prepare well for this section, aspirants should try to take as many GK quizzes as possible. After taking such tests, candidates will be in a better position to identify questions that are commonly asked. Also, candidates are advised to go through magazines as well as books to become better acquainted with important GK and current affairs events.

NCHMCT JEE 2026 Tips for English Language Section

Considered one of the most important sections of NCHMCT JEE exam, the English section consists of 60 questions. Questions asked in the English section try to test an aspirant’s reading skills, vocabulary, and grammar (tenses, reading comprehension, rules of conjunction, rules of correct usage, preposition, spotting errors, word substitutions, synonyms, antonyms, idioms, etc.).

To practice sample/mock questions for this section of the exam, aspirants can consider referring to books such as Wren and Martin, Pearson’s English, Arihant General English for all Competitive Examinations and Tata McGraw-Hill.

NCHMCT JEE 2026 Tips for Aptitude for Service Sector Section

Another very important section in the NCHMCT JEE exam is the one which consists of questions asked to test an aspirant’s aptitude for service sector. To excel in the hospitality industry, one must possess interpersonal skills and this section of JEE tries to evaluate whether candidates possess these skills or not.

The marking system for this section is graded and so there is no such thing as a wrong answer in this section. So, even if you are not confident of the answer, then also it is advisable to mark the answer that you feel is most likely to be correct. After submitting, take at least 4 printouts of the confirmation page. Also print proof of fee paid and keep extra photos same as uploaded. Keep them safe for future.

It depends on your category. General and OBC Non-Creamy Layer – ₹1000, EWS – ₹700, SC/ST and PwD – ₹450, Transgender – ₹450. Check carefully before paying.

You can apply if you passed 10+2 or similar exam. English must be there in your study. Even if you're appearing for 10+2 this year, you can apply, but final admission needs pass certificate.
