How to Get DU Admissions Under Sports Quota? - One of the top universities in India, the University of Delhi carries out annual admission cycles just like most universities out there. Apart from candidates applying for admissions under the general and reserved categories, they are also given an opportunity to apply for admission under the Sports Quota as well as Extra Curricular Activities (ECA) Quota. The ECA and Sport seat allocations are done on the basis of the preferences given by the candidates when the first UG ECA/Sports Quota Admission List is released on the DU Admissions Portal. The upgrade in the further UG ECA/Sports Quota Admission Lists (if seats remain vacant) will also be done on the basis of the latest preferences of the candidates. 
Under Sports and ECA quota, the University of Delhi offers no more than 5% reservation. Delhi University (DU) gives colleges the freedom to decide the actual number of seats that are to be filled under the sports quota (not more than 5%). These seats are determined based on the facilities available, requirements of the College as well as other relevant factors. Information regarding sports quota seats along with the requirement of sportspersons in different Games/ Sports with the respective Position/ Event / Weight Category are provided by DU colleges on their official website as well as their notice board.

DU Sports Quota Application Process

In order to apply for admission under the sports quota, candidates need to fill out the online application form released on the official website of Delhi University (DU). An applicant can apply in a maximum of three games/ sports.

Delhi University Sports Quota Application Fee

Candidates who wish to apply for admission under the sports quota at DU need to pay an additional registration fee of INR 100 (all categories) in addition to the primary university registration fee.

Q:   Which entrance test scores are accepted by Delhi University for BTech?
A:

Candidates wanting to pursue BTech from DU must meet the prescribed eligibility and selection requirements. The university accept valid scores of JEE Main and CUET for selection purposes. Selection shall be done based on merit in these entrance examinations. The aspirants shall stay updated with DU admission schedule and the accepted exam dates.

Q:   Can I get into DU with 500 score in CUET UG?
A:

Delhi University offers UG courses based on CUET UG exam. Based on the DU B.Com Hons. cutoff 2024, It is not possible to get into DU with 500 score as the cutoffs for all the affiliated colleges under Delhi University were comparatively above than the score of 500. Further, DU CUET UG cutoff 2024 ranged from 608 to 758 for the General AI category candidates for B.Com Hons. However, cutoffs can vary as per the courses, for some courses, it is below and for other, it is above. Q:   Who is eligible for DU?
A:

DU eligibility criteria varies with course. However, the basic eligibility requirement for UG courses is Class 12 and a minimum of graduation is required for PG courses. Below is DU eligibility for top courses:

Delhi University Sports Quota Eligibility Criteria & Admission Process

Candidates are offered admission to Delhi University as per two criteria under the sports quota at Delhi University colleges. The two criteria under which DU admissions are offered in Sports Quota are:

a) Super Category: Direct Admission without Sports Trial

Students who have represented India at international sports events which are recognised and funded by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS) will be given Direct Admission at DU colleges and such students would not have to undergo Sports Trials. However, a point to note here is that applicants would only be offered admission at those DU colleges which have put in a requirement for the Game/ Sport that the candidate has taken part in. The events which enable aspirants to be relieved from taking part in DU sports trials are:

  • Olympic Games by the International Olympic Committee (IOC)
  • World Championship / World Cup by International Sports Federations (ISFs)
  • Commonwealth Games by Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF)
  • Asian Games by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA)
  • Asian Championships by International Sports Federations (ISFs)
  • South Asian Federation Games (SAF) by South Asian Sports Council (SASC)
  • Paralympic Games by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC)

 b) Admissions through Sports Trials

Candidates would be allotted a maximum of 40 marks for the Merit/ Participation Sports Certificate.

Q:   Can I get admission in Delhi University without CUET?
A:

CUET UG is compulsory for admission in the affiliated colleges of University of Delhi for UG courses. Delhi University introduced admissions through CUET scores in 2024 for candidates who seek admission. Candidates will not be granted admission on the basis of merit of class 12th. However, there are some specific percentage criteria needed to appear for the CUET exam for class 12th candidates which is given below:

  • Students must have passed Class 12 or appeared in Class 12 from a recognized board in any stream to take admission to bachelor’s degree programmes in the central, state, private or deemed universities.
  • For the General category, the candidate needs to secure a minimum of 50% in Class 12; for SC/ST, candidates must have secured a minimum of 45% in Class 12 to be eligible for the CUET 2025. For BTch programmes, the minimum aggregate for the General category candidates is 45%, and that of the reserved category candidates is 40%.

Q:   Is there any entrance exam conducted for MA admission at the University of Delhi?
A:

Yes, the university has changed its admission process in 2023. Starting 2023, DU admission to all the postgraduate courses will be subject to CUET PG scores seat allotment. Q:   What is the eligibility criteria for BTech at Delhi University?
A:

Candidates seeking admission to a BTech course of Delhi University must fulfil the prescribed eligibility requirements. The aspirants who are Class 12 or equivalent pass Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics subjects are eligible for the course admission. Applicants must hold the relevant documents at the time of admission and form filling. These are required for verification purposes by the university. 

  • Criteria for Marking of Merit/Participation Sports Certificate displays the marks for different levels of Game/Sports Competitions.
  • Sports Certificate of Invitational / Memorial / Open / Prize Money League / Ranking Competitions will not be considered.
  • Applicants are required to upload Self-Attested copies of three Merit/Participation Sports Certificates. However, only the Highest Merit/ Participation Sports Certificate will be considered for marking.
  • The level of competency of candidates is determined only for those who have achieved distinction during the preceding three years (of the year of admissions) in those Games/Sports recognised by AIU / MYAS in which Inter-University Competitions are held and preferences are given by the constituent colleges.

DU Sports Trials

Candidates would be allotted a maximum of 60 marks for Sports Trials. These trials would include team games, individual sports as well as dual and combat sports.

Team Games: Ball Badminton, Baseball, Basketball, Cricket, Football, Handball, Hockey, Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, Korfball, Netball, Softball and Volleyball.

Delhi University colleges conduct Sports Trials only for the game or sport that is identified by the Delhi University Sports Council (DUSC). The college conducting the sports trial would videograph the entire trial and preserve the recording till the admission process is complete.

The applicant needs to secure a minimum of 30 marks in the Sports Trial to be eligible for DU admissions under the Sports quota.

Tie-Break

In a scenario wherein two or more candidates secure the same marks in the same Game or Sport and are eligible to secure admission in the same course in the DU college then a tie-break is done by the Sports Admission Committee of the college as per the below-mentioned criteria:

(a) Applicant securing higher marks in Sports Trials will be given higher preference.

(b) If the Tie persists then all the applicants will be offered admission.

Note:

1. Sports Certificate of Invitational / Memorial / Open / Prize Money League / Ranking competitions will not be considered.

2. Merit/Participation Sports Certificate of the preceding three years (of the year of admission) will be considered.

The list of applicants selected for admission under Sports Quota (that is, marks of the Sports Certificates and Sports Trials) along with the course allotted for admission shall be displayed on the official website and Notice Board of the college for three days. Candidates can raise grievances, if they have any, during this three-day wait. The Grievance Committee of DU College needs to resolve all the grievances within these three working days, that is before admission is offered to candidates.

The list (soft as well as hard copy) containing names of candidates shortlisted for admission basis Sports Trials is sent to Delhi University Sports Council (DUSC) within seven days from the last date of admission by the constituent Colleges.

Instructions for Physical Trials for ECA Admissions to DU

  • Candidates must be physically present at their allotted centres for trials. Outstation candidates are advised to arrange their stay beforehand. The expense of travel and transit must also be borne by the candidates.
  • The date-wise and time slot-wise detailed list of candidates for each ECA category’s trials shall be notified by the university. The candidates are advised to keep checking the UoD admission website for details.
  • Candidates are required to carry their own equipment, sports gear, etc. to the trial centres. These types of equipment will not be provided to the candidates by the centre and borrowing is prohibited. 
  • It must be noted that there are no “syllabi” for any of the ECA category trials. These trials are aimed at judging a candidate’s proficiency in the given ECA category and shall be based accordingly.
  • The candidates are themselves responsible for their physical and other health-related issues and perform as per their capabilities. The University shall not bear
    any responsibility for any injury caused to any candidate during the trial process. No special consideration by the jury shall be granted to any candidate who is afflicted in
    any way at the time of trials.
  • In the award of scores for performance in physical trials, the discretion of the assessment committee will be final and binding and no grievance shall be entertained
    on this ground. No second chances will be given to any candidate under any circumstances.
  • The candidates are advised to wear ECA category-specific clothes/costumes, suitable to the performance.
  • Disciplinary action shall be taken against any candidate who misbehaves in any manner with any university official, experts or judges at any time during the trial process.
  • Recording/ filming of the trials by the candidates/ accompanists is prohibited.
  • Sufficient thoughts and care should be implemented during the trials i.e. the presentations should not be injurious to the personal or religious sentiments of any individual, community or nationality.
  • For the categories where the physical outcome has been achieved, the University will have all rights for the use of these, as and when they deem fit.
  • Since these are in-person trials, the given time slots may sometimes vary due to unavoidable circumstances. The candidates are therefore advised to make suitable
    arrangements for food, water, medicine, etc., for longer than the stipulated time.
  • Use of any gadget (besides those mentioned under some ECA categories)/ other unfair means may lead to cancellation of the candidature under the ECA quota. This especially holds for literary categories, like creative writing, debate, quiz, etc., where the candidate is likely to use the internet for ideas/answers. Use of only those gadgets is allowed as applicable under some ECA categories.
  • In case of any clarification or in case of any candidate having a clash of dates for trials (if applied for more than 1 ECA category), the candidate should write to eca@admission.du.ac.in.

A. For divinity category, general rules for ECA admission in DU are as follows: 
1. The candidates shall come prepared with one bhajan/kirtan/shabad, of maximum 4 minutes.
2. The assessment committee may ask the candidates to present some other performance/s too, that shall be announced on the spot.
3. Maximum of one accompanist is allowed—a vocalist, in case the candidate is an expert of instrument and vice-versa.
