The Film and Television Institute of India, Pune is possibly the most popular film and television institute in the country. Over the years, many many FTII graduates have gone on to contribute immensely to the Indian entertainment industry. FTII was established in 1960 and started operations in 1961. The institute operates under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India. FTII is also a member of the International Liasion Centre of Schools of Cinema and Television (CILECT). Many popular names have been Presidents of the institute. The current President of FTII, Pune is R. Madhavan. The courses and curriculum of the many courses at FTII teach technicians, actors, editors, screenwriters, editors and many other professionals who are part of film production.
