The direct admission is provided only on vacant seats at institution or college level. The eligibility criteria for direct admission on seats remaining vacant in the first year after entrance examination counselling shall be such as may be notified from time to time. The general admission process for AKTU BTech course is through entrance exam. The university accepts national or state-level entrance exams like JEE Main, CUET, KEAM or IPU CET.
The selection will be followed by counselling. The counselling process of shortlisted candidates will be managed and regulated by AKTU based on which the candidates will be allotted seats. The seat allotment is based on the affiliated college cutoff and the candidate's preference for courses and colleges.
AKTU accepts JEE Main Scores for admission to the BTech and BTech Integrated courses. DR. A.P.J Abdul Kalam Technical University is expected to conduct a total of six rounds for CUET-UG-qualified candidates. However, the cutoff rounds are conducted as per seat availability. For passing in Theory Subject, a student need to secure a minimum of 30% of the maximum marks prescribed in the university examination and 40% of marks in the aggregate marks in the subject including sessional marks i.e. minimum passing grade is “E”.

Candidates enrolled in the Ph.D. programme at AKTU on a regular basis are eligible for a monthly stipend of INR 31,000 from MHRD for the first two years of the programme and a monthly stipend of INR 35,000 for the next three years of the course of study; after completing five years, if students are still working on their Doctoral degree, then they are provided monthly financial assistance of INR 12,000 for only one year. Ph.D. scholars are eligible for Stipend only if they have qualified for national-level entrance examinations such as UGC/ CSIR NET (JRF) examination, SET, GATE (with a valid score), or Teacher Research Fellowship.

AKTU CUET PG cutoff 2024 was the deciding criteria for admission to the MCA course. The cutoff was released through affiliated colleges of the university. Furthermore, a campus placement drive was organized by an Ed-Tech company on behalf of T&P cell. In this placement drive, MBA and BTech students from affiliated colleges has taken part. According to media report, a total of 12 students have been selected for the post of Sales Executive with CTC of INR 4.12 LPA.
