University of Mumbai Latest News and Updates

Mumbai University has become the center of attention due to an embarrassing error after degree certificates issued to students featured a spelling mistake. The university misspelled its own name as "Mumabai" instead of "Mumbai" in the convocation degrees. The affiliated colleges of the university spotted the mistake and returned the incorrect documents to the university for correction. The university has cited this as a technical issue during the printing process and ensures that the certificate will be reissued to the affected students.

Several colleges affiliated with the university have returned the documents, and a few of them are in the process of returning them. In the meantime, a city college principal called the mistake 'embarassing' and said it made the certificates look fake.  “Imagine students using these documents for jobs or higher studies; it’s a disaster,” he highlighted. Another principal added that the mistake has damaged the credibility of the university, as reported by the Economic Times.

Convocation Held for 1.64 Lakh Candidates

Mumbai University organised its convocation ceremony for the graduating batch of 2023-24 on January 7. The convocation included the degree distribution for 1.64 lakh candidates. However, the exact number of defective degrees is yet to be traced by the authorities.

As per the latest reports, Mumbai University has now outsourced the printing of its convocation certificates to a Hyderabad-based company. A university spokesperson confirmed that several certificates contained typographical mistakes, attributing the issue to "printing problems." However, the university did not provide an exact count of the affected certificates.
