The SSC Multi Tasking Staff and Havaldar exam dates are expected to be released soon by the Staff Selection Commission. The SSC MTS exam was postponed from its original exam schedule because the SSC CGL exam was conducted during that period. The Commission is expected to release the revised exam dates for the SSC MTS 2025. The Commission is expected to conduct the SSC MTS exam in November/December. The Commission is expected to release the revised SSC MTS exam dates soon on its official website - ssc.gov.in.

The Staff Selection Commission will release the SSC MTS city intimation slip around 10 days before the exam start date. The SSC MTS admit card will be released only three days before the exam date of the candidate. The candidates should note that the Commission will conduct the SSC MTS exam in multiple shifts. The SSC MTS and Havaldar exam will be conducted in October/November 2025, as per the exam pattern shown above. The new exam pattern has increased the weightage of General Awareness and English in the selection process. The questions will be set in English, Hindi, and 13 regional languages.

Negative Marking in SSC MTS and Havaldar Exam

SSC MTS and Havaldar paper 1 has a negative marking of the quantum of one by four. It implies that the one-by-fourth marks (of the marks assigned to that question) of the candidates will be deducted for each incorrect answer marked in the SSC MTS and Havaldar answer key online. The Staff Selection Commission will release the SSC MTS 2025 cutoff with the result. The Commission will mention the state-wise and force-wise SSC MTS cutoff for the MTS and Havaldar posts. The candidates are required to score marks equal to or more than their category cutoff to get selected for the exam. There are no such passing marks which can ensure selection. The candidates should note that the Staff Selection Commission changed the SSC MTS exam pattern in 2022. The Commission dropped the tier 2 exam from the exam process and now there is only one online exam which decides the selection of the candidate.  The total marks of the SSC MTS 2025 Tier 1 exam will be 270. There will be 90 questions and each question will be 3 marks. The total duration of the SSC MTS 2025 Tier 1 exam will be 90 minutes

The SSC introduced sections in the SSC MTS Tier 1 exam in 2022. The SSC MTS paper 1 is divided into two sections. One section employs the negative marking for the candidates. There is a partial negative marking in the paper.

SSC MTS Age Limit & Eligibility

The SSC MTS Havaldar age cutoff date was August 1, 2025.  Additionally, the SSC revised the age limit for the Havaldar post. Now the upper age limit for the Havaldar post is 27 years.

Age Limit for SSC MTS and Havaldar

(i) Age of 18 years and should not exceed the age of 25 years (i.e.candidates born not before 02-08-2000 and not later than 01-08-2007) for MTS 

Age Limit for Havaldar

(ii) Age of 18 years and should not exceed the age of 27 years (i.e.candidates born not before 02-06-1998 and not later than 01-08-2007) for Havaldar in CBIC (Department of Revenue) and CBN (Department of Revenue) and few posts of MTS.

The candidates should note that the age was counted from August 1, 2025.

SSC MTS and Havaldar Eligibility - Exemptions Provided to PwD in the PET/PST

SSC will conduct the PET/PST exam for the Havaldar posts. SSC will provide exemptions to the candidates belonging to different categories as mentioned below:

SSC MTS and Havaldar - Nationality Requirement

The candidates must be a

  • Citizen of India or a person of Indian Origin
  • The subject of Nepal/Bhutan
  • Tibetan Refugee
  • A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania (Formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam, intending to permanently settle in India.

Q:   How many stages are there in the SSC MTS exam recruitment?
A: 

The Staff Selection Commission changed the SSC MTS exam pattern altogether. The Commission removed the Paper 2 (descriptive) from the selection process. Now there are only two stages in the SSC MTS exam. These are mentioned below:

  • SSC MTS Paper 1
  • PET/PST for Havaldar Posts

The Document Verification process will be carried out by the indenting user department. In addition to above, the Commission changed the SSC MTS Paper 1 exam pattern and removed negative marking from the Numerical and Mathematical Ability and Reasoning Ability and Problem-Solving section.

Q:   Is typing test compulsory for SSC MTS Exam?
A: 

No, there is no typing test required in the SSC MTS exam. There is no skill test mentioned in the official SSC MTS notification. SSC MTS paper 2 was a descriptive test which is qualifying only.The candidates are required to undergo the PET/PST conducted by the designated authority.

The Staff Selection Commission removed the paper 2 from the exam process and there is no typing test included in the SSC MTS Exam Pattern.

 

Q:   What is SSC MTS eligibility?
A: 

The educational qualification required to apply for the SSC MTS 2025 exam is Matriculation only. The candidates who have passed the Class Xth can apply for the exam. The candidates appearing in Class X can also apply for the exam but they need to provide their Class X pass Certificate during the document verification process having date prior to the last date of application. Beside that, the candidates must have attained 18 years of age.

The Commission also added the Havaldar posts in the official SSC MTS notification making it SSC MTS and Havaldar examination. The education qualification required for the Havaldar post is matriculation only.

Q:   How many attempts are there in SSC MTS?
A: 

SSC MTS exam is conducted online only as a Computer-Based Exam (CBE). The Commission conducts the SSC MTS exam every year to recruit candidates for the Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS). The Commission does not mention any limit to the number of attempts. The candidates can appear for the exam any number of times till they fulfil the age criteria. The Commission also provide age relaxation to the reserved category candidates.

The SSC MTS 2025 exam will be conducted from October/November 2025.

Q:   What will be the total marks in the SSC MTS 2025 exam?
A: 

The candidates should note that the Staff Selection Commission changed the SSC MTS exam pattern in 2022. The Commission dropped the tier 2 exam from the exam process and now there is only one online exam which decides the selection of the candidate.  The total marks of the SSC MTS 2025 Tier 1 exam will be 270. There will be 90 questions and each question will be 3 marks. The total duration of the SSC MTS 2025 Tier 1 exam will be 90 minutes

The SSC introduced sections in the SSC MTS Tier 1 exam in 2022. The SSC MTS paper 1 is divided into two sections. One section employs the negative marking for the candidates. There is a partial negative marking in the paper.
