Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs) have announced RRB ALP eligibility criteria along with the notification. RRB ALP eligibility highlights certain parameters in terms of educational qualification, age limit, nationality and medical standards. Candidates applying for RRB ALP 2025 exam must fulfill the eligibility criteria laid down by the examination authority. According to RRB ALP educational qualification, RRB ALP age limit is 18 to 30 years. Candidates must have completed Matriculation and possess an ITI/Diploma in the relevant trade.

Candidates must have valid documents in support of their eligibility. In case the eligibility criteria are incorrect, candidates will be debarred from appearing in the RRB ALP exam. Q:   What are RRB ALP qualifying marks?
A:

The qualifying marks of RRB ALP exam are the marks which candidates need to secure in order to qualify the exam. Besides, the cut off marks, candidates are also required to secure the cut off. The category-wise qualifying marks for RRB ALP exam are given below.

Q:   How can I become ALP in railway?
A:

Candidates from all streams can become a loco pilot after completing Matriculation / SSLC plus ITI from recognised institutions of NCVT/SCVT/Matriculation / SSLC plus Course Completed Act Apprenticeship in the prescribed trades/3 years Diploma in Mechanical / Electrical /Electronics / Automobile Engineering/Combination of various streams of these Engineering disciplines from a recognised Institution in lieu of IT.

RRB ALP age limit highlights the maximum and minimum age limit. The age limit is calculated as on 01-07-2025. The maximum age limit for RRB ALP exam is 30 years and the minimum age limit is 18 years. Candidates within the age group can apply for the exam. Relaxation in the upper age limit is given to candidates belonging to the reserved categories.

Important Points:

  • If a candidate is eligible for age relaxation on more than one ground, he/she will get the maximum amongst the relaxations for which he/she is eligible (not cumulative)
  • SC, ST & OBC (NCL) candidates applying against UR vacancies will not get any age relaxation
  • Age relaxation to Ex SM candidates will be as given as per the required criteria

Candidates who are serving Group 'C' and Erstwhile Group 'D' Railway Staff, Casual Labour and Substitutes in Railways who have put in a minimum of 3 years’ service (continuous or in broken spells) of SC/ST Category

45 years of age

Candidates who are working in Quasi-Administrative offices of the Railway organization such as Railway Canteens, Co-operative Societies and Institutes

Up to the length of service rendered (or) 5 Years, whichever is lower.

Women candidates, who are widowed, divorced or judicially separated from their husband but not remarried of UR Category

35 years of age

Women candidates, who are widowed, divorced or judicially separated from husband but not remarried of OBC-NCL (Non-Creamy Layer) Category

38 years of age

Women candidates, who are widowed, divorced or judicially separated from husband but not remarried of SC/ST Category

Course Completed Act Apprentices applying for the posts for which minimum qualification is ITI/Course Completed Act Apprenticeship.

Shall be relaxed to the extent of Apprentice Training undergone by them under the Apprentice Act 1961.

Candidates who are Course Completed Act Apprentice under the Apprenticeship Act before attaining the age of 25 years of UR Category

RRB ALP Educational Qualification

RRB ALP educational qualification is given below:

Matriculation / SSLC plus ITI from recognised institutions of NCVT/SCVT in the trades of Fitter, Electrician, Instrument Mechanic, Millwright/Maintenance Mechanic, Mechanic (Radio & TV), Electronics Mechanic, Mechanic (Motor Vehicle), Wireman, Tractor Mechanic, Armature & Coil Winder, Mechanic (Diesel), Heat Engine, Turner, Machinist, Refrigeration & Air- Conditioning Mechanic

(OR) Matriculation / SSLC plus Course Completed Act Apprenticeship in the trades mentioned above

Q:   Is CBAT mandatory for all posts in RRB ALP?
A:

In RRB ALP & Technician exam, only those who have applied for Assistant Loco Pilot (ALP) and cleared second stage of, need to appear for CBAT. CBAT is for the candidates who have applied for technician post only. Candidates equal to eight times the number of ALP vacancies are called for CBAT based on the performance in Part A of second stage CBT, subject to qualifying the Part B. Candidates are required to qualify in each of the test batteries of CBAT. The questions in CBAT are in English and Hindi only. There is no negative marking in CBAT. To draw the merit list of ALP,  70 per cent weightage is given to Part A of second stage CBT and 30 per cent in CBAT.

Q:   How many candidates applied for RBR ALP exam?
A:

Approximately, 47.45 Lacs candidates applied for RRB ALP exam. The application process of RRB ALP was completely online. Candidates were not required to send the hard copy of their application forms. The application fees were accepted both online and offline.

(OR) Matriculation / SSLC plus three years Diploma in Mechanical / Electrical / Electronics / Automobile Engineering (OR) combination of various streams of these Engineering disciplines from a recognised Institution in lieu of ITI. Note: Degree in the Engineering disciplines as above will also be acceptable in lieu of Diploma in Engineering.

Important Points:

  • The Educational/Technical Qualification certificates viz. Provisional or Regular Certificates should contain the date of issue
  • In case, date of issue of these certificates is after the closing date of the notification, then the consolidated marks sheet with date of declaration of the final qualifying exam or individual mark sheets of all the semesters/years with date of declaration of each semester /year result should be submitted
  • In case of nonavailability of date in any of these certificates, then a certificate indicating date of declaration of result from the Board/University to this effect should be produced at the time of DV
  • Candidates must already have the prescribed Educational/Technical qualifications from a recognized Institute/University as on the last date for submission of RRB ALP application form
  • Those awaiting results of their final examination of the prescribed educational/technical qualification are not eligible for the exam

A candidate must be either:

(i) a citizen of India, or

(ii) a citizen of Nepal, or

(iii) a subject of Bhutan, or

(iv) a Tibetan refugee who came over to India, before 01.01.1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India, or (v) a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

(vi) Provided that a candidate belonging to categories (ii), (iii), (iv) and (v) above, shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India
