Gauhati University: Cutoff 2026, Fees, Courses, Placement, Admission and Ranking

CAT has released its date for the exam. CAT 2026 will be conducted on Nov 29, 2026. Registerations of CAT Exam 2026 are closed now. The registrations were open from Aug 3, 2026 till Sep 22, 2026. Admit cards will be released till Nov 4, 2026. 

Yes, Gauhati University is a government university which was established in 1948 and is approved by UGC (University Grants Commission) and AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education). The university is ranked 88 by NIRF (National Institutional Ranking Framework) 2023 under the University category. Since it is a government university, the fee for various courses is not high. Even if the students find the fee a little high, they can apply for the scholarships provided by the university. To get admission to this government university, candidates must have valid scores in entrance tests. If applying through CAT, candidates must prepare according to the CAT syllabus and CAT exam pattern.

Gauhati University MBA admission is completely based on the merit scores obtained by students in the university/national-level entrance exam along with their merit at the undergraduate level. The university conducts its own entrance exam for admission. However, those with a valid score in national-level entrances, such as MAT/ CAT/ XAT/ CMAT exams are exempted from this test provided they have a score of 75 percentile and above. Those who qualify one of the afore-mentioned exams are required to go through a GDPI round for final selection. Before everything else, students must meet with the minimum eligibility criteria set by the university which is to pass a relevant undergraduate degree with at least 50% aggregate. However, those who are in the final year of their UG degree can also apply provided they have no arrears in the previous semesters and fulfill the complete eligibility before first semester exams.

BSc at Gauhati University is offered in multiple specialisations and accross various affiliated colleges. The mode for most of the programmes is full-time offline mode. That means the candidates have to appear for classes and evaluation at the university campus or the affiliated college. University website has not mentioned any online or distance-learning programmes for its BSc course. Candidates can enquire with their respected college for any distance learning option.

To be able to take admission to UG courses at Gauhati University, a student has to have completed class 12 from any well-recognized board and fulfilled the required percentage of percentage criteria as determined for that specific course. Online applications on the university website are offered; they are submitted via form-filling, uploading relevant documents, and application fees payment. Mostly merit-based admission procedure, though an entrance test might be needed in a few courses. Shortlisted candidates will be informed to attend counseling or further process.

As per the data collated from the official website, Gauhati University MBA admission is completely entrance-based. Students seeking admission must are either required to go through the university-level entrance test followed by Group Discussion and Personal Interview rounds or those with a valid score (75 percentile and above) in national-level entrances, such as MAT, CAT, XAT, CMAT can directly appear for GD and PI rounds for final admission.
