MBBS - Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery - Batch of 2026
Offered by Dr. Somervell Memorial CSI Medical College and Hospital
2.2

Review of Dr. Somervell Memorial CSI Medical College and Hospital.
Placements: The college is a medical college, so there is no concept of placement. Some people who complete their MBBS course from here prefer to give NEET PG or transfer to the Middle East for good opportunities. Kerala itself has low employment if you are just an MBBS student. No companies are coming for placement. Students have to do a permanent 1-year internship where they help and learn more about the practical knowledge of a doctor.
Infrastructure: Classrooms are quite big. It's an old college established in 2002, so the classrooms are like those of a government college. A smart board is there for lectures, with no Wi-Fi facility available in class. The library is quite big, and all the skill labs and subject labs are properly maintained. The quality of the hostel is bad. There is no choice, you must take triple occupancy as there is not enough space, especially in the girls' hostel. There is no canteen in the hostel, and the mess of the college is the worst; the food is not even good, hygienic, and they charge too much for it.
Faculty: As this is a medical college, you will feel the stress, assignments, and exam pressure from faculty members. Teachers are knowledgeable and have good teaching quality. The course is curriculum-relevant and makes the students ready for real-life challenges. Semester exams are tough to pass. In fact, Kerala University of Health Sciences is among the toughest universities to pass. The pass percentage is generally above 80%. Teachers help you a lot.
Other: I chose this course to become a doctor and be socially well-recognized. People look up to you. The stress should have been less in my course, that is one thing I want to change. There are no events or fests, a high campus crowd, and calm surroundings. Welcome to the Jail and Concentration Camps. You cannot leave the hostel without loads of permission signs.

Short note on my college.
Placements: Top recruitment companies like Infopark, Technopark, and UST were providing massive offers with satisfying packages. Also, the intern packages start from 1.5 LPA, which is very encouraging for students to join such courses. Additionally, 70 to 78% got placed in the on-campus drives itself.
Infrastructure: This is one of the sophisticated branches of All Saint’s College, as it is located in Thiruvananthapuram. Throughout the year, they plan only one event, which is organized in a grand manner. Students from various states come to pursue their UG and PG degrees, most of them from Tamil Nadu.
Faculty: Professors lavishly spend most of their time creating discussions and controversies among the students, which are unnecessary for students. In a 1-hour session, they simply utilize 30 minutes for teaching and then move on to attend to their other work.

B.Tech. in Information Technology - Batch of 2027

LBS – they say empowerment, but it’s not really true.
Placements: Considering the last three years, the placements have gradually decreased, mainly in the IT field. Companies like Infosys, IBM, Tata Elxsi, Allianz, etc., have visited our campus. The companies mainly focus on students in the IT field, which makes it tougher for civil students. The CGPU has been having sessions where we are trained for our placements; this has been active only since this year.
Infrastructure: College has a small campus which is within a 5-acre plot, including the hostel. The college has a sufficient number of classrooms as of now, but I don’t think they can manage if more branches are introduced to the college. The college hostel has new blocks, but the old block remains the same without much maintenance. The curfew of the hostel is 7 pm, which is very appropriate.
Faculty: Faculty members are pretty good, but only a few of them. The major reason is that faculty members are given subjects that are not in their domain, which makes it difficult for both the faculty and the students. The university exams are pretty tough to crack, but repeated previous year questions can help us. The syllabus is of no use when we consider the jobs that we will be working on. If you are on this campus, we can’t fully rely on the faculty and syllabus, we’ve got to work out our way.
Other: I don’t think it is value for money, as the total expenses for a merit student are around 3 LPA, and the hostel rent and mess bill together are below 6000 per month. According to the system, the crowd is too small for the college, and the campus life is poor. They don’t really permit campus life. The campus is only accessible to students until 5 pm, while hostellers can use it until 9 pm. It’s a pretty bad situation for day scholars.

Proud to be an Ivanion because of our faculty members and infrastructure.
Placements: 80% of students are placed in our course. The highest package is 5 LPA. Banks and companies are the major recruiting companies that include Infosys, SBI, Microsoft, etc. They can get jobs like an accountant, bank manager, program developer, etc. They provide support to us.
Infrastructure: Hostel is highly facilitated. It is cleaned every second. Students love their hostel life. There will be special study time, and food is also provided on the basis of the timetable. There will be separate hostels for boys and girls. Hostel fee is affordable.
Faculty: The most important feature of the college is the education. They provide better education to the children. Education is compulsory, then any other activity. All the exams, evaluations, result publications, etc., are done in a structured format without delay.
Other: I chose this course to become an accountant. I think this is the best college to provide educational support to me. College is well known because of its curriculum. Our faculty members are also supporting our studies. They do their best for us. The most special thing in our course is an experiential learning platform. This platform helps us to implement what we have studied in the classroom to the real world. We are well known for our business. In college, different kinds of activities are available like NCC, NSS, etc. We also have CMA, CA, and ACCA courses.

Perfect college for career growth.
Placements: Many companies recruit from our college. We recruitment. In my year, there were 72 students. Top roles offered in my course are Auditor, Chartered Accountant, and Bank Manager. Infosys, Wipro, Federal Bank, South Indian Bank, etc. I don't have any information regarding packages, as I don't think it is offered.
Infrastructure: Commerce Department has computer labs. Our campus has a common library with a vast collection of books. Being a day scholar, I don't know about the hostel. Food quality in the college canteen is excellent. We have a medical room. Science department has Chemistry labs. Canteen offers a wide variety of food items, from pre-made to hand-made food items.
Faculty: Teachers were qualified. They teach in an engaging manner. They provide study materials and prepare us well in advance. Curriculum is relevant. It makes the students pre-equipped with communication skills and a better understanding of the world. Exams are moderate.
Other: I chose this course to pursue my ambition to become a chartered accountant. There are many fests in our college. We have club activities.

College has basic infrastructure and outdated teaching methods, but the faculty are supportive.
Placements: Around 60-70% of eligible students in our college get placed every year. Many well-known companies like TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Cognizant, Accenture, and EY visit our campus regularly. For my course, roles like software developer, analyst, and testing engineer are most common. The average package is decent, but a few companies offer high packages. Internship opportunities are also available through the placement cell, mainly with companies like Quest Global and Tata Elxsi.
Infrastructure: Infrastructure is quite basic. While we do have Wi-Fi, classrooms, and labs, the maintenance and availability of resources are often lacking. The hostel facilities are average. I feel there's not much focus on sports or recreational activities. More attention is needed to improve student comfort and experience.
Faculty: Teachers are helpful and supportive, but the way of teaching is not proper. The classes are mainly focused on theory and are harder to follow; most students get bored during the classes. The curriculum is not fully updated with the latest information regarding industries, so we have to depend on online sources and self-study to learn more. The semester exams are fine, but I have faced difficulties in fulfilling the answers according to the given questions.
