NIT Silchar was ranked in NIRF Rankings of 2025. The institute was ranked at '50' under the 'Engineering' category and '97' in the 'Overall' category. The instiute is recognised by UGC.

During NIT Silchar placements 2022, the highest package and average package offered were INR 44 LPA. The highest package was offered by Amazon. The fees for NIT Silchar MTech course ranges from INR 1.4 lakh to INR 2.30 lakh. The duration if the course is for two years. Students who want NIT Silchar admissions need to fulfil the eligibility criteria. The eligibility criteria is that candidate should have passed graduation with a minimum of 60% aggregate. At National Institute of Technology (NIT) Silchar, students are offered various scholarships under different schemes. Some of the scholarships that students can avail at NIT Silchar are as follows:

CCMT Counselling registration process is conducted in an online mode. Candidates have to register for the counselling process by filling their name and GATE related details such as year of exam, registration ID, exam paper and score to generate the login details. 1. After registration, candidates need to log in to the official website and enter their details such as parent’s name, date of birth, gender, nationality, academic qualification, bank account information and others.
2. Candidates will also be required to upload a scanned copy of the GATE scorecard. The format of the scorecard should be GIF/PNG/JPG/JPEG/BMP and the size should be between 50 KB to 200 KB.
3. Before the CCMT registrations, candidates must generate passwords. Submission of the application form will be done after all submitted details are reviewed. After the completion of registration, a unique registration number will be generated.'
4. Candidates have to pay the required registration fee through online mode (net banking/credit card/debit card) or offline mode (e-challan at any branch of SBI).

Step 6 - Choice Filling and Locking: Candidates have to select their choice of colleges and courses during the allotted time. Change, re-order and deletion of choices could be done within the choice-filling period. Candidates must fill the choice in the order of their preference. Editing of selected choices cannot be done after locking. A printout of the filled choices must be taken for future reference.

As NIT Silchar admission is entrance-based. Admission to its flagship programme i.e. BTech is based on JEE Main scores of the candidates. Further, aspirants are allotted seats via JoSAA Counselling. For admission to MTech and MBA programmes, candidates must have a valid score in GATE and MAT/ GMAT/ CAT/ CMAT, respectively. The selection for MSc programme is based on IIT JAM scores of the candidates.

NIT Silchar selects candidates based on their merit or scores in entrance exam. The institute accepts JEE Main, GATE, etc. Aspirants can apply on the institute's website for the preferred course.

MTech CSE cutoff 2025 was released for the year 2025, wherein the range was from 526 to 602, according to the last and first round cutoff for the General AI category. Please note that different categories will have different cutoffs accordingly; for example, the OBC AI category, the NIT Sikkim M.Tech cutoff 2025 ranged from 555 to 486. For the SC and ST AI quota, admissions were closed at 403 and 278, respectively. M.Tech admissions are based on GATE score, followed by  the CCMT counselling process for NIT Silchar 2025.

NIT Silchar 2025 cutoff has been released for admission to M.Tech courses. M.Tech CSE cutoff 2025 ranged from 602 to 526 for students belonging to the General AI category quota, according to the first and last round cutoff results. In 2024 and 2023, admissions to M.Tech. in Computer Science and Engineering were closed at 448 and 386, respectively. Analysing the trend over the last three years suggests that the competition for this course is increasing year by year. Please note that this applies to the General AI category candidates; other categories might show different trends. 

NIT Silchar CCMT cutoff 2025 for various rounds has been released for different categories of students. If you belong to the General AI category, the cutoff for all specialisations and rounds ranged from 360 to 526, wherein M.Tech. in Computer Science and Engineering was the most competitive. For the  OBC AI and SC AI category candidates, the last round cutoff ranged from 317 to 486, and 231 to 328, wherein M.Tech. in Computer Science and Engineering and M.Tech. in Transportation Engineering were the toughest specialisations to crack, respectively. JEE Main Registration 2024 session 2 last date was March 4. NTA released JEE Main 2024 Application form session 2 on February 2. JEE Main Application form 2024 session 2 was available online on the official website jeemain.nta.ac.in. Candidates who have applied for JEE Main 2024 session 1 had not register again. Such candidates only need to fill the paper details (BE/BTech or BArch/BPlan) and pay application fees. JEE Main 2024 registration last date session 2 was March 4.

NIT Silchar selects candidates based on their merit or entrance exam scores. Aspirants also need to score a minimum of 75% aggregate in Class 12 for UG courses. A minimum of 60% aggregate is required in graduation for PG courses. Candidates should also have a valid score in JEE Main, IIT JAM, GATE, etc. Hence, aspirants with 85% can get admission provided they also meet the selection requirements.
