The college and the surroundings are also very good.
Placements: In the B.Tech Mechanical Engineering course, around 75–80 percent of students get placed in the latest placement drive. The highest package offered is around 18 LPA. The lowest is 4 LPA. The average package is nearly 7 LPA. Top recruiting companies include Tata Motors, Mahindra, L&T, JSW, Cummins, Vedanta, Infosys, Wipro, and TCS. Nearly 60 percent of students receive internships, with companies like Tata Steel, JSW, IOCL, HPCL, and L&T offering good opportunities. Top roles offered are Graduate Engineer Trainee (GET), Design Engineer, and Production Engineer.
Infrastructure: The campus is beautiful, surrounded by greenery and lakes. This gives a calm and refreshing vibe even during stressful exam weeks. The infrastructure is pretty good. It includes well maintained hostels, labs, and sports facilities. The Wi-Fi sometimes tests your patience, but that is part of the fun here.
Faculty: In Mechanical Engineering, there are five teachers from the top 2% of the world who joined two months ago. The course curriculum is relevant, and we do labs that help us adapt to the industry. The exams for Mechanical Engineering students are very tough. We have to be able to handle complex computations on our own. Academically, the college provides a decent environment for learning. Some professors are truly inspiring and supportive. While others might make you question your life choices during lectures. Still, the overall academic culture encourages teamwork, innovation, and curiosity.
Other: Our batch is a mix of tech enthusiasts, gamers, and night owls. They somehow manage to finish assignments right before the deadline. We are balancing chain breaks with project submissions. It creates memories that last longer than our sleep schedules. NIT Silchar provides one of the most vibrant college experiences.

This is my short review of my campus, NIT Silchar.
Placements: Good placements are given for all the branches with increasing average LPA every year. You need to maintain a minimum of 7 GPA to sit for placements and even to do an internship. The world’s top companies come to recruit students. Mechanical students get an average package of 10 LPA.
Infrastructure: They provide excellent Wi-Fi, lab, and classroom facilities along with good freedom, but hostels are a bit average. Hostels are built like those from the 80s and 90s, which makes your room feel old. Until the fourth year, you don’t get any privacy in your room as only triple-sharing rooms are allotted.
Faculty: Teachers are helpful and kind and give their best in teaching. Semester exams are a bit moderate, but you have very little time to study. They give very less time for exams to complete, which affects people who have studied but haven’t revised multiple times.
Other: Try to enjoy on campus. Be enthusiastic and participate in all the events.

NIT Silchar campus life.
Placements: Placements are quite good in this college as many companies like Google, Wipro, Microsoft, Tata, Amazon, Deloitte, etc. Companies are offering placements with good packages with an average package of 10 lacs for the students trying for campus placements in the campus.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of our college is not so good as the rooms are maintained by ourselves. The building is very old which is from the 1960s the playground, classrooms, and library are good. Especially the library which is 2nd the largest library in Asia and ethernet is provided which is helpful.
Faculty: The curriculum is so good on our campus. Many clubs are there like for cultural activities and education purposes technical clubs. We can be part of any clubs and the teachers are good but not so great as some of them teach well and some don't do those.
Other: Fests are quite good here like technical fests and cultural fests.

Not my dream IIT but my reality - My NIT Silchar.
Placements: I am from the mechanical branch, and my course will be completed in 2027. This year (2025), around 92% mechanical students got placed in NIT Silchar. The lowest package is around 5 LPA, and the highest package is 56 LPA. The average package offered is around 11 LPA. Many core companies are top recruiters. Top roles offered are in the research field as well as management.
Infrastructure: Classrooms are generally basic in the old gallery in which upto 2 years your classes will occur after which 3rd year onwards, your classes will occur in new gallery. There are cool classes compared to old gallery. Wi-Fi is not available everywhere but LAN services are quite good. Labs are also well-maintained. Not too big but we have Asia's biggest digital library but to be frank, it is just like an ordinary library. Hostel facilities are quite good. Food is also good enough. But it will vary according to different hostels. We have facilities for almost all sports and games.
Faculty: Teachers are more than qualified in my college. Many of them come with a vast understanding of the subject they are teaching. But on the contrary, when you are in college, it doesn't matter how good teacher is, you are going to study from YouTube only. But still, the curriculum of our college is one of the toughest, and it has a big practical development also. I don't say you can become industrial-ready just by that. But it can become a stepping stone. Exams are very difficult, to be honest.
Other: I chose mechanical because of my big brother who is already a mechanical engineer from IIT and is currently working at Walmart. I wish there were less language barriers in my college because of 50% home quota. Many students seek Assamese which to be fair, is a very beautiful language, but I have no understanding of it. Events and fests are few things to look for in my college as they are generally great. Many international artists also came to perform in it.

The college kid who is okay.
Placements: The placements are pretty average. The highest package is upto 60 LPA. The average salary ranges from 15 LPA - 20 LPA. Top recruiting companies are Indian Oil and tech companies from Bangalore. Most of the students get their internships in their 3rd year of B.Tech.
Infrastructure: We have Asia's biggest digital library which offers pretty much exposure to the course. Classrooms and hostel are average, you can say. All of the classrooms are not fully equipped or the maintenance is very poor. The food in the hostel is replaceable, if everyone votes if they do not like it then it can be changed.
Faculty: Most of the faculty members are very well-educated and have many degrees. But only 50% of them know how to teach properly. Otherwise, we find YouTube helpful in that case. The semester exams are up to the mark. All the students start sitting at their tables 1-2 weeks before the exams.
Other: Campus life is amazing. We have a lush green campus that is full of life. The student community makes sure that there is an event every week so that no one gets bored of the daily routine of our life. The college fests are the most enjoyable days. There is one fest in every semester. In the odd semester, there is a fest called Techno and in even semester there is a fest called Incandescence.
