Extracurricular Activities at Vellore Institute of Technology

There are two significant events at VIT that encourage students to participate and enjoy themselves. The events are Riviera and Gravitas.

Vellore Institute of Technology consistently looks for and employs novel approaches to raise the standard of higher education. It provides superior education based on moral principles and critical thinking for the betterment of life and an ecosystem of innovation to advance knowledge.

Importance of Extracurricular Activities

The administration and different organisational boards have made great efforts to ensure that every student feels VIT is a highly vibrant, enjoyable and resourceful institution. Students are exposed to a competitive atmosphere inside and outside of the institution including other universities and colleges around the nation by joining clubs and groups and participating in college festivals.

There are two significant events that encourage learners to participate and enjoy themselves. Riviera and Gravitas are the two national-level events.

There are various clubs organised by the students which make them gain new experiences. The clubs are as follows:

This institution's events include both inter-college and intra-college participation.

Riviera: One of the key occasions that provides students a stage to present and develop their skills in numerous technical and administrative fields is Riviera, a yearly International Sports and Cultural Fest. This event is a four-day event held once a year. Riviera holds the distinction of being the country's first university-related cultural and sporting event to get ISO 9001:2015 certification. The four-day festival honours literature, art, dancing, theatre, debate and culture. They refer to this phenomenon as "The Riviera Phenomenon," and their signature events Aikya and Infusion give it colour and depth. In addition to this, there are occasions hosted by several organisations and groups that include famous visitors from a variety of backgrounds.

The magnitude of Riviera has been expanding every year. The Pro shows at Riviera 2019 featured performances by The Local Train, Sonu Nigam, Ayushmann Khurrana, Andrea Jeremiah, Shruti Haasan, Devi Sri Prasad and many more notable celebrities. In addition to these well-known people, they were also honoured to have the presence of Indian cricketer Murali Vijay, music director Ghibran, actors Manchu Manoj, Priya Anand, radio jockey-turned-actor RJ Balaji, Nehal Chudasama, and Miss India-Universe 2018 as Chief Guests for various events held during Riviera'19.

Gravitas: The annual technological and design carnival held at VIT is called GraVITas. This is a three-day event which is held once a year. This festival aims to provide students a platform to demonstrate their abilities and sharpen their innovative thinking in the field of technology. Students from all around the nation participate in the three-day festival, which also fosters idea interchange and ignites a collective growth in the development of its youth.

Clubs

Arts & Cultural Club: In this club, there are more than 20 different divisions like anchoring, comedy, dance, music, film society, photography, etc. These divisions come under stage performances. Students in these clubs are coached by seniors for stage performances in various events.

Technical Club: In this club, there are nearly 30 different divisions like Development, Marketing, Multimedia, Coding, Astronomy, Physics, Entrepreneurship, Robotics, Electronics, etc. These divisions come under Stage Academics. Students in these clubs are trained by seniors and influencers for performances in various technical events.

Social Outreach Club: In this club, there are nearly 20 different divisions like NCC, NSS, Youth Red Cross, Leo, Kalvi, Nature lovers, Ayuda, Anokha, Juvenile care, etc. These divisions come under social activities. Volunteers in these clubs get guidance from senior volunteers to participate in various social activities.

Health & Wellness Club: In this club, there are nearly 12 different divisions like cycling, fitness, health, skating, nutrition, yoga, trekking, sports, etc. These divisions come under students’ welfare activities. In this club, volunteers receive fitness tips from senior volunteers and health activists.

Literature Club: In this club, there are nearly 15 different divisions like a Book club, Tamil, Malayalam, French, German, Gujarati, The Hindu Educational Plus, etc. These divisions come under various languages. Volunteers in these clubs get guidance from senior advisers for learning various languages.
