For the hostel accommodation, the fee ranges from INR 60,000 to INR 1,42,000 to be paid annually. The hostel fee is based on the type of room accommodation chosen.

Six types of hostel room accommodation are available for students at Vellore Institute of Technology.

With the aim of providing advanced better education at par with international standards, the Vellore Institute of Technology has been founded.

Hostel & Food Facilities

The Vellore campus of the Vellore Institute of Technology has 24 hostels for students. Out of which, there are 18 blocks of boys' hostels and the remainder 6 blocks are of girls' hostels. Every year, the hostel blocks accommodate more than 22,000 students.

Six types of hostel room accommodation are as follows:

  • A single student in a room
  • Two students in a room
  • Three students in a room 
  • Four students in a room 
  • Five students in a room
  • Six students in a room

The hostels at VIT are a home away from home. They are intended to create a pleasant, safe, welcoming and stable living environment while also providing opportunities to make long-lasting friendships and ease the transition from home to college.

Hostel review committee meetings are held once every 15 days by the hostel management to resolve students' questions and needs, as well as to keep them updated on service and event upgrades. Students are also given the opportunity to share ideas for improving the hostels.

AC (Air-Conditioned) and non-AC single and shared rooms are available. Rooms have properly constructed furniture such as a bed, chair, bedside table, study light, bookshelves and wardrobe. First aid, pharmacy, photocopy services, food stalls, fitness centre both AC & Non-AC, swimming pool, sports facilities, laundry facilities, Wi-Fi service, parlours, stitching unit, driving, dancing and music schools, utility store and visiting rooms are all available. 

Resident psychologists, wardens, administrators, maintenance workers and security officers are available 24 hours a day. Students are chauffeured and safely transported to and from the campus to the closest railway stations and bus stations late at night or early in the morning by a security officer. Water and power supplies are available 24 hours a day, provided with stand-by captive generators.

Hostel students have access to nutritious cuisine and a range of dining alternatives. Students have access to multi-cuisine food services that provide vegetarian, non-vegetarian, Indian and foreign dishes. At the Foodservice Mess, students can also select and purchase from a limited menu of unique items available with advance registration. Dining rooms open at 7 AM, with overnight facilities operating from 10:30 PM to 12:30 AM. The kitchens are maintained safe and hygienic and in accordance with food safety regulations. Every month, the Student Mess and Meal Committee works with the hostel managers to provide a balanced menu.

Hostel and Mess Fees

For the hostel accommodation, the fee ranges from INR 60,000 to INR 1,42,000 to be paid annually. The hostel fee is based on the type of room accommodation chosen. For mess, the fee ranges from INR 56,000 to INR 72,000 to be paid annually. Mess charges are based on the food menu chosen like vegetarian, non-vegetarian or restaurant Style Special food varieties.

Student Engagement Activities

The management and other organisational committees work hard to ensure that every student perceives VIT to be a dynamic, entertaining and productive institution. VIT seeks to support, create and expand any initiative that shapes young minds. By joining clubs and groups and participating in college festivals, students are exposed to a challenging environment with other prestigious institutions and colleges around the country. There are various committees, clubs and events that engage students. The events are GRAVITAS, RIVIERA, NCC, NSS & various club activities.

Vellore Institute of Technology's various student clubs, such as the Arts & Cultural Club, Technical Club, Social Outreach Club, Health & Wellness Club, Literature Club, and others, meet on a regular basis to bring out and encourage students' hidden skills by providing constant practice in their chosen field.
