Insights from UPES placement drive this year

Contrary to popular belief, IT and engineering jobs continue to be in demand. Ninety-five per cent of eligible B.Tech graduates pursuing computer science and engineering specialisations have been recruited.

  • Environment, health, and safety are increasingly becoming a significant mandate for organisations in all sectors. The UPES witnessed 100 per cent placement of students pursuing B.Tech in Fire & Safety Engineering, B.Tech Chemical Engineering, with specialisation in Refining & Petrochemicals.
  • B.Tech Fire & Safety Engineering, B.Tech Geo-Informatics Engineering, B.Tech Mining Engineering, and M.Tech in Health, Safety & Environment with specialisation in disaster management.
  • On the management side, MBA graduates with the specialisation edge are a hit among employers with 98 per cent of eligible placements at the UPES.
  • It is not just the traditional organizations, but even new-age concepts such as app-based food delivery businesses are hiring MBA graduates with specialization in Logistics & Supply Chain Management.

Talking about the university’s focus on employability, Dr Deependra Kumar Jha, Vice-Chancellor of the UPES said,

Placements of students are one of the most important parameters for any university and we continue to raise the benchmark on this front. However, with changing business scenarios and a major shift in the nature of jobs employability of students is the true parameter to assess their knowledge, skills, and potential.

”.

Manish Madaan, Deputy Director of Career Services and Corporate Relations at the UPES added,

This year’s placement drive has brought out interesting insights that will enable us to further bridge the talent demand-supply gap. In our experience, it is not the issue of lack of job opportunities but the limited availability of rightly skilled work-force that needs to be addressed.

Drivers for outstanding student outcomes

UPES has undertaken several unique initiatives with an aim to transform students into employable, agile professionals who are ready to take future jobs. These initiatives include:

Industry-academic collaborations: Most of the programs offered by the UPES are co-designed, co-certified and co-delivered by leading organisations from various industries. The University has such academic partnerships with IBM, Cisco, L&T, Aditya Birla, Philips Carbon Black, Xebia, Bombay Stock Exchange Institute, Infosys, Tata Power and many more.

Enhanced Development Growth and Enrichment (EDGE) programme: The University has created several tools to facilitate holistic development and multi-dimensional growth of students throughout their tenure at the campus through its EDGE programme. This programme focuses on entrepreneurship, competitive exam pathways and employability. As part of the program, students undergo aptitude training, mentoring by alumni, pre-internship training, communication workshops, competitive exams training, resume & interview techniques and much more.

Faculty Internship: A four to six weeks of the learning process in a business environment provides opportunities for the faculty to correlate theory with practical application, in turn making teaching relevant to the industry and augmenting the realism of the classroom course.

I was confused between UPES and KIIT for B.Tech. After asking around, I feel KIIT is the safer, more balanced choice—especially for CSE. Fees are lower (around 15-20 Lacs total), placements are solid (8-10 LPA average), and the brand is more established. UPES is great but expensive. If you want peac
