BITS HD, also known as Birla Institute of Science and Technology Higher Degree Test (BITS HD), is a university-level entrance examination that offers admission to higher degree programs (M.E/M.Pharma) at all BITS Pilani campuses - Pilani, Hyderabad, and Goa. For BITS HD 2026 exam admissions, valid GATE scores of 2026, 2025, and 2024 will be accepted for the counselling/iterations. Candidates applying through GATE score, must check and provide their best scores in the BITS HD registration form. Such candiates are exempted from attempting the exam. 

Yes, GATE scores are accepted for admission to BITS Pilani campuses. However, admission to the M.E in software systems will only be through the BITS HD exam. Candidates applying through GATE exam will have to provide their valid GATE scores for admission.

Test Paper II in the BITS HD exam is for students applying for higher degree programs except those applying for M.E. in software systems and environmental engineering courses. The exam pattern is as follows -

• Exam duration - 105 minutes

• Total number of questions - 70

• Question format - Multiple-choice objective questions

• Marking scheme - Three marks for the correct answer and a negative marking of -1 for the incorrect answer. 

• Questions will be asked from the basic subjects of his/her discipline.

The BITS HD Test I is compulsory for all candidates applying for higher degree programs at BITS Pilani and other campuses. The Test I question paper consists of the following sections: Core Mathematics (15 questions) and English Language Skills and Logical Reasoning (15 questions). The examination is conducted online and lasts 45 minutes.

The syllabus for the BITS HD Electrical and Electronics Engineering paper is as follows -

• Electrical sciences - (circuit elements, sources, and laws, important power concepts, magnetic circuits, etc.)

• Electromagnetics - (Maxwell's equations in free space and in-time varying fields, antennas and radiation, plane waves in dielectric and conducting media)

• Signals and Systems and Digital Signal Processing - (sampling and reconstruction, Fourier series - CTFS and DTFS, Laplace Transform, etc. 

• Digital Electronics - (number systems and codes, Boolean algebra, counters and registers, etc.)

• Electrical machines - (transfer, three-phase transformer connections, parallel operation, etc.)

• Heat transfer - steady state and unsteady state heat conduction, radiation and heat transfer, etc. 

• Fluide mechanics and machines - fluid statics, dimensional analysis, etc.

The mathematics syllabus for the BITS HD examination is as follows -

• Calculus - functions, graphs, limit and continuity, gauss and Stokes, triple integrals, etc. 

• Linear algebra - matrix algebra, system of linear equations, etc. 

• Complex variables - analytic functions, Cauchy’s theorems, Taylor and Laurent’s theorem, etc.

• Probability and Statistics - sample space and events, central limit theorem, sampling distribution, etc.

• Differential equations - first-order differential equations, initial and boundary value problems, method of separation of variables, etc.

Birla Institute of Technical Science will release the BITS HD admit card at the official website. After downloading the BITS HD admit card, applicants are advised to check all the details mentioned in it. In case of any mistake in BITS HD admit card, candidates are advised to contact the exam authority for corrections. Such applicants will be allowed to appear in the exam. However, at the time of counselling process candidates must have correct details mentioned in the hall ticket.

Birla Institute of Technology and Science will release the BITS HD admit card on the official website. Applicants appearing in the exam can download their BITS HD admit card at bitsadmission.com. The login credentials required to download the BITS HD admit card are registration number, date of Birth (DOB), and password. Candidates appearing in the exam have to carry their BITS HD admit card along with one valid photo ID proof at the exam centre. However, to download the hall ticket, BITS HD slot booking is necessary. 

Candidates can select at least three test centres according to their preferences for the BITS HD examination. The final list of centres will depend on the number of applicants and their preferences. Yes, BITS Pilani (HD) does accept GATE scores for admission. However, admission to ME in software systems will be through BITS HD exam scores only. However, candidates must submit their valid GATE score and details while filling the application form.

Yes, BITS HD cutoff varies as per the campuses and courses offered through the entrance exam. The seat matrix of all the colleges and courses available through BITS HD exam varies which also determines the cutoff. No, candidates are not required to attempt BITS HD exam if they have a valid GATE or GPAT score. All they have to do is complete the registrations and provide their score or scorecard. The iteration result will be released on the website based on the GATE or GPAT score on the scheduled dates.
