4.2
Good faculty, decent placements, strong alumni network, and average infrastructure.
Placements: About 65 percent placement in the year 2025. The highest package is 23 LPA and the average package offered is 8 LPA. Top recruiting companies like BPCL, ICICI, PWC, LNT, ITD Cementation, Mageba Bridge, Tata, etc. About 70 percent of enrolled placement students got placed. Top roles offered are associate, etc.
Infrastructure: The college has a pretty good hostel now which is also newly renovated. Wi-Fi is available 24/7 on campus as well as in the hostel. Library facilities are also very nice (fully AC) giving a 24/7 option for students to study. Right now the library is also expanding to 1 more floor making it a 3-floor library for more capacity.
Faculty: Teachers are qualified but teaching quality varies across subjects. Curriculum covers basics but is slightly outdated and not fully industry-oriented. Students need extra effort like internships and self-study to be industry-ready. Semester exams are moderate and most students pass with regular preparation.
Other: I chose this course due to my interest in the core field and its career opportunities. The best part is strong fundamentals, supportive faculty, and a good alumni network that helps with guidance and opportunities. The curriculum needs more industry exposure and practical learning. Campus life is decent with good connectivity and average extracurricular activities.

It's not good like IIT but a good tier to NIT.
Placements: The placement is around 55-60 percent, this branch is good. The highest package of this year, I think, is around 14 LPA something and the lowest is 3.60 LPA. Top recruiting companies for Civil Engineering at IIEST Shibpur include major core sector firms like Tata Steel, Larsen & Toubro (L&T), JSW Group, Vedanta, and Aditya Birla Group.
Infrastructure: Facilities and infrastructure are also good. The library is good with free Wi-Fi but the classrooms are old. The college has too many trees which gives a good and pure air, and the campus looks nice but the hostels are old because it's an old college. There is a lack of canteens in college, and there are no night canteens on campus.
Faculty: Many teachers are graduates from out of the country and teachers explain in good ways how they solve our doubts also. The course curriculum is relevant. The semester exams are moderate. Questions are based on the concept that one always learnt a new things.
Other: There is a cultural fest named Rebecca, which is good. A Bollywood singer came at that time.

College gives you all the things regarding academic as well as college life.
Placements: Approximately 70% of students of the department of civil engineering got placed in prestigious firms as PWC, some PSUs like BHEL, BPCL, and GAIL. The highest package is about 22 LPA, lowest is 6 LPA, and average is 9 LPA - 10 LPA. Top recruiters are PWC, JSW, BPCL, TCS, and many more. About 90% of students got internships, whether paid or non-paid.
Infrastructure: Facilities and infrastructure are good in the department. We have seminar hall, Wi-Fi, labs, and well-equipped classroom. There is also a library. Quality of food offered in hostel is much good. Canteen is available at affordable cost. Medical facilities are also provided by the institute. Sports club and gymnasium are also well-equipped.
Faculty: Teachers are very helpful and highly qualified from top institutes in the country. Teaching style is flexible. Mode of teaching is English. Course material is relevant and makes the students industry-ready. Semester exams are there. Two exams are there per semester equipped with several class tests and assignments. Pass percentage is good.
Other: Civil engineering is one of the oldest courses offered by the institute with good placement records. Highly qualified teachers are there to guide. Several events and seminars are organised by the department. Department fest is also there. Scholarships are also provided for meritorious students.

Placements in our college are quite good, but for civil engineering, it is worse than anyone can expect.

Satisfied with faculty members, good placement in 2020, good infrastructure and facilities.
Placements: On average, about 75% of students got placed. Circuit branch students have a 90% placement rate, while core branch students have a placement rate of only 60%-70%. The highest salary package offered is 50 LPA, and the lowest salary offered is 6 LPA. The average salary package offered is 10 LPA. Around 50% of students secured internships. Top roles offered in our course are structural engineer and manager.
Infrastructure: Infrastructure is good. Classrooms are okay but the sound system is very bad. Backbenchers can't hear anything. Labs are very good. Library is open from 7:00 AM to 11:00 PM. Mess food is very bad, but there are vegetarian and non-vegetarian sections. All hostels have particular gym and badminton court.
Faculty: Teachers are very helpful, well-educated and graduated from top colleges in India. The teaching style of all the teachers in unique. They are very friendly. Course curriculum is relevant and it makes students industry-ready. Semester exams are very tough. Pass percentage is 40%.
Other: In myrank, this course was the last option. The best thing about college is this is a government college. Annual fest Rebeca and tech fest Instro are conducted. Campus has greenery.

Dissatised with infrastructure and placements. Really good teaching faculty members.
Placements: College has a robust placement record, attracting a number of reputable companies across various companies like TCS, Wipro, Google, Texas Instruments, Vedanta, L&T Ltd, and some others. The highest placement package in 2024 was 45 LPA. The average salary package was 7.5 LPA.
Infrastructure: IIEST is the second-oldest engineering college in India. So, the infrastructure is not as good as expected. Food in the hostel mess is not very tasty, but it is healthy. Both indoor and outdoor games are available at the hostels. They conduct inter-hostel competitions among the hostels. Wi-Fi is available in the hostel and classrooms. Campus has 4 canteens. Hospital facility is available 24 hours on campus.
Faculty: As per my knowledge, the student-faculty ratio is 11:1. All the teachers are good in their subjects, and their background in research is remarkable. Most of the faculty members are good at interacting with students. There are two semesters in a year. The difficulty level of the paper is moderate. The number of classes is very less during the mid and end-semester exams.
Other: I am a Civil Engineering student. I chose this course because the college itself started with the Civil department, and the alumni network here is almost very big. The job opportunities are somewhat less, many students opt for higher studies. College offers various scholarships like Bharati, Amazon, Reliance, etc. The nightlife at the IIEST Shibpur is very good and enjoyable. College organizes events like INSTROU, the largest technical fest in Kolkata which is handled by IIEST students. REBCA, is another fest organized for 3 days, where the college is decorated with lights and flowers.

IIEST: carrying the legacy of over 100 years.
Placements: We have 102 students in my course; the last batch had 109 students, and 60% of them got placed. The highest package was 11.74 lacs, the lowest was 3.3 LPA, and the average was 6.8 LPA. Top recruiters are ICICI, PwC, Techno, Mageba Bridges, and Haldia Petrochemical. 27% of students got internships, and 4 students had PPOs from PwC at 9.3 LPA. Top roles offered are graduate engineer trainee, consulting roles, and software engineer in a few companies and management roles in banks.
Infrastructure: The faculty members are top-notch here; they have completed their graduation and PhDs from IIT Kharagpur and Jadavpur University and top NITs. Keep in contact with them, as they'll assist you in providing internships. We haven't had ACs in 4 years in our department except in our seminar hall. Luckily, another building is being constructed for the civil engineering department. Classrooms are well-ventilated and spacious, but you might suffer a little bit during summers as humidity is at maximum level. The library has thousands of books; it's the best thing in college, having each and every book for departments. Hostels are clean, washrooms are cleaned on a daily basis, and there are 4 sister rooms in the 1st and 2nd years. Food in the mess is quite good; non-veg is made twice a week, having fish also in lunch. Biryani is made once a month. We have a hospital on campus with all the important medicine and a doctor there. We have 2 grounds, Oval and Lorda, for football and cricket where students play in the evening.
Faculty: Teachers are exceptionally knowledgeable, except a few who just come up and read the PPT. They're open to your doubts anytime; that's the best thing. The course is obviously relevant for the core field, having all the civil engineering requirements. People in their 2nd year of summer have secured their internships in top IITs. Semester exams are easy; just cover the notes well and last 2 years of PYQs. Start 7 days before midsem and 15 days before endsem. You'll easily bring 8 SGPA.
Other: Being the 2nd oldest engineering college, civil engineering was the first branch of the college since 1856. I opted for this college, as it has a vast alumni network among top companies and IITs. I would prefer to increase the software part a bit more in our course. So that students going for non-core are helped. The cultural fest REBECA is the best of Kolkata; we've got top celebrities from all over India. It's a 4-day fest. Connectivity like Howrah Junction is 7 km away; you'll easily get the bus outside college. An airport is at a 50-minute distance from our college. We've received GaaBesu scholarships from our alumni and various government organizations. The surroundings are beautiful; you'll have too many places to visit after coming here. The campus itself is so beautiful, having old buildings giving the Harry Potter castle vibe.

IIEST- once the mother of IIT Kharagpur.
Placements: After the 2nd semester, you are eligible for an internship based on your skills. After the 4th, you may receive pre-placement offers if you deserve them. Official placement starts in the 3rd year. Generally, all big companies visit, such as Microsoft, Google, Adobe, Uber, Flipkart, etc. On average, 80 to 90 percent of students get placed with an average package of approximately 8 lakhs. I also prepare for college placements because they are very good.
Infrastructure: I chose civil engineering for graduation here because it is well reputed and the oldest college for civil engineering. The curriculum here is the same as in all government colleges, but during project work or preparation for placements, the college gives you a lot of free time to develop your skills. This is a very old college, so there are not many modern hostel buildings, but they are in the best condition as they are. I think it has the best meals among all government colleges because everything is in the hands of the student senate regarding the menu for each day. Registration for hostel accommodation starts after admission. You get all the details about that on campus when you arrive. If you are interested in living in a personal rented room, then the location of the college is ideal because it is right next to Howrah, which is one of the big cities of India. You have various options for PG or rented rooms.
Faculty: The faculty here is one of the best because they are all well qualified in their respective fields. If you study hard, the faculty members here help as much as possible. They try to teach everything that is important for us. They also help us with our critical thinking and in our projects.
Other: Here, you are eligible for various scholarships. One main thing is that due to a very vast alumni network, they provide funds to the college for scholarships for deserving students. The total tuition fee for B.Tech is around 5.5 lakhs if you are general and 2/3 if you are OBC or have a family income of less than 5 lakhs. If your family income is less than 1 lakh, the total fee for B.Tech is only 50,000 rupees. The annual cultural fest, named REBECCA, is the oldest cultural fest in the country. It generally lasts for 4 to 5 days and features various big celebrities who come and perform. Each department has its own technical fest. The festive season runs for 3 months with full enjoyment. There are all types of social groups like dancing, debating, gaming, photography, filming, modeling, etc. This is a very old college, so there are not many modern hostel buildings, but they are in the best condition. I think it offers the best meals among all government colleges because students have control over the menu every day. Registration for hostel accommodation starts after admission. You get all the details on campus when you arrive. If you're interested in living in a personal rented room, the location of the college is ideal because it is right next to Howrah, which is one of the biggest cities in India. You have various options for PG or rented rooms.

All about IIEST.
Placements: In civil engineering, approximately 50% of students get placements. The average package in this course is 7-8 LPA. The top recruiting companies are PWC, ITD Cementation, and JSW in the civil engineering department. A lot of students get internships from the college.
Infrastructure: Though it is one of the oldest colleges, still, the infrastructure is quite good. The labs and classrooms are well-furnished. In the hostel, the food quality is average. There is free Wi-Fi. There are a lot of grounds in the college for sports. The hostel authority has its own doctor.
Faculty: Teachers at IIEST Shibpur are very helpful. They always try to resolve your doubts. The curriculum of IIEST is very relevant. It offers a lot of courses like machine learning, AI, etc., along with the semester study. The semester exams are not difficult at all. Most of the questions come from the PYQs and teachers' notes.
Other: IIEST is famous for civil engineering. There are a lot of fests in IIEST Shibpur, along with departmental fests and the annual fest Rebaca. The campuses of IIEST are so beautiful for their greenery. There are a lot of societies in IIEST; for example, for debate, there is the Debsoc society, and for coding, there is CodeIIEST.
