M.Tech. (Research) in Robotics - Batch of 2027

A beautiful IIT with Himalayan views, good placements, and brilliant minds.
Placements: I am currently pursuing M.Tech (Research) in Artificial Intelligence and Robotics at IIT Mandi. I am currently in my 2nd semester. My department is the Center for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics. My department was established in 2022. I took admission during summer of 2025. We have 11 students in M. Tech (Research) course. We studied robotics. We had subjects like Mechatronics, Autonomous Mobile Robots, Control Systems, and Robot Vision, etc. Regarding placements, our seniors usually get jobs in companies like Tata Electronics, Volkswagen, etc.
Infrastructure: Our college provides great infrastructure for study. We have a fully Wi-Fi-connected campus, projectors in every classroom, and a central library with ample books and seating areas. Our hostel is also good with common washrooms and proper cleaning of washrooms every day. Food quality is normal (not good). Also, there are limited options available in the canteen. Our department has 3 labs with proper availability of hardware and software along with anytime mentorship from faculty members. The medical facility is also good in our hostel with 24/7 service available. We have a separate sports complex providing facilities for indoor and outdoor games.
Faculty: Teachers are very helpful. All faculty members have degrees from IITs or good foreign universities. They are experts in robotics, control systems, robot dynamics, and artificial intelligence. The curriculum is quite hectic. As we need to study regularly if we want to score good marks. Otherwise, it would be difficult to cope up with. The course curriculum is relevant according to industry standards. It helps students get into the market. Semester exams are quite difficult as they require good student effort along with knowledge. The student is required to get a minimum of 4 CGPA to pass.
Other: I chose this course because it is related to computer science and artificial intelligence. The best thing about it is that you gain a lot of knowledge about hardware, different robotics systems, drones, etc., which most students are unaware of. We only see robots but don't know about the principles involved in them. We have a culture fest Exodia, a sports fest - Ranneeti, and a tech fest - Expect. The campus is less crowded. Our college is disconnected from the main city, Mandi. Lots of clubs and extracurricular activities like music and drama are available to take part in.

Himalaya Beauty IIT Mandi.
Placements: In this college, out of 35 students, approximately 20-23 students have been placed to date. The highest package is 18 LPA, the lowest is approximately 6 LPA, and the average package is approximately 8 LPA. Companies like Trident, L and T, and Infosys are hiring. The roles offered in my course are for GET (Graduate Engineering Trainee).
Infrastructure: The facilities and infrastructure of my college are brilliant. IIT Mandi lies in the Himalayas and has a very beautiful campus. In every semester, mainly three different labs and classrooms are equipped with digital boards. The library books are also provided by our institute. Hostel rooms are good, mainly two and three-seater. Food quality is average, mainly provided by students.
Faculty: Teachers are highly qualified. Many have completed their PhDs from top IITs. The teaching quality is very good; they use digital boards and green boards for teaching. The civil engineering course is good at IIT Mandi, and yes, it provides knowledge about how industries work in the real world. College exams are average or maybe difficult.
Other: According to my JEE Advanced rank, this college is the best for me.

Great package, but a small campus.
Placements: 100 percent of students have been placed in the computer science course. The highest package is 90 LPA, the lowest is 17 LPA, and the average is 30 LPA. The top recruiting companies are Google, Microsoft, and Adobe. Nearly 80 percent of the batch got an internship by 3rd year in companies like Microsoft and Samsung. Top roles offered are SWE and product manager.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure available is great, but less compared to the number of students. Hostel infrastructure and cleanliness are great, but rooms are a bit cramped, the mess food is sometimes good and sometimes very bad. Sports (especially badminton) facilities are great. Medical facilities are also up to date.
Faculty: Teachers are knowledgeable, but not all are helpful. The course curriculum is incredibly relevant for industry work, with courses like the design practicum, which teaches students the entire process of designing and implementing a product. The semester exams are not too difficult, with only maybe 2-3 students (out of 100) failing any course.

It's very good and satisfactory, the scenic beauty of the mountains and nature is fabulous.
Placements: The mathematics and computing course at IIT Mandi was started in 2023. The placement for the branch has not started yet but the internship of our seniors is very good with most of them securing internships. Some secured internships for the SDE role while others got trading or finance-related roles. Some interned in AI-ML, and some joined the research sector according to their interests. Some companies that have hired interns include Microsoft, Sprinkler, Adobe, Goldman Sachs, and Boconni University's Quant Finance, among others.
Infrastructure: Our campus provides good classroom, library and labs facility with very pretty scenic view of the mountains, Wi-Fi facility is very good in labs and library but not that good overall, sports facilities are good but mostly in the South campus so there is problem of up down from one campus to another but have many facilities in North campus also, mess food is decent and campus have decent amount of canteens not much, medical facilities provided is good.
Faculty: Professors who teach us are very helpful and well qualified while some of the teachers may not sync with you but overall they are all good. The course structure is more relevant compared to other engineering colleges and IITs focusing more on AI and ML which is booming right now. The courses like programming and Python, probability and statistics simulation, and machine learning courses are compulsory for every student irrespective of their branch in the initial semester. Semester exams are competitive and decently tough but in 1st semester they are not that much. The majority of students pass the semester exams.
Other: The mathematics and computing course is very vast and you have options for so many fields to pursue in the future according to your interests. The course structure is also good just the mathematics part is more than the computing part but our school of mathematics has very good professors. It is the best school of our college fest like Exodia and Expect are cultural and technical fests of our college that take place during even semester and so many colleges across India come during these fests and are fabulous while in odd semester, the sports fest named Ranneeti and more are conducted.

Really good infrastructure.
Placements: The highest package was 65 LPA last year, and the average is around 27 LPA for my branch. Nearly 90 percent+ got placed last year. Top recruiting companies are Google, Amazon, Nvidia, Flipkart, etc. The same percentage of students got internships, and those were in Google, LibreOffice, etc.
Infrastructure: We have Wi-Fi, but it is not optimized to work for Windows, and we have a lot of problems connecting Windows to the Wi-Fi. Classrooms are well structured. The library is also well built and has great facilities. Food in the hostel is sometimes good and sometimes not. Medical facilities are provided for free, and we have a sports complex and a large ground on the campus for most sports.
Faculty: Teaching quality is mostly good, except for a few professors who didn’t know how to teach, and we had some problems in those courses. Nearly every student, but not all professors, are like that. Semester exams are not that tough and are according to what we are taught.

College is situated in the foothills of Himalayas and provides so much positivity.
Placements: It has been 100 percent placement this year. CSE has an average package greater than 29 LPA. The highest package has been around 1 CPA, and the lowest is around 15 LPA. Companies like FAANG, MAANG, and top HFTs have come to our campus. Placement is so awesome, but apparently we have to work hard too.
Infrastructure: Department of each branch has huge infrastructure and labs worth 1.5 crores. Everywhere in the campus there is availability of Wi-Fi facilities. Hostels are good, but due to increasing seats, the space might become congested. Mess provides decent food, but it can be worse.
Faculty: Faculty have excellent qualifications, some have done dual PhDs and are currently teaching. Semester exams are tough as brilliant brains qualify in IITs. Courses are totally industry-organized, and faculty teaches them fluently. The students who don’t study will fail, but hardworking ones succeed.
