IIT Roorkee MTech Highlights 2024
The institute offers 41 MTech specialisations along for Engineering graduates. All these MTech specialisations are offered for a duration of two years and is divided into a semester pattern. IIT Roorkee admission 2021 to MTech programme is based on a valid GATE score obtained by eligible candidates. The seat allotment process is then carried out through COAP Counselling. On the basis of GATE score, the merit list is prepared by the board and then offered seats on the basis of availability of seats at the institute. On acceptance of the seats through COAP portal, the candidates can reserve their seats by paying an admission fee to the institute.
However, candidates who possess a regular BTech degree from IITs with a CGPA of greater than 8.0 on a 10-point scale are offered direct admissions, while sponsored category candidates can apply for MTech programme in both full-time and part-time modes, provided they possess relevant work experience. Sponsored category candidates are offered admission based on candidate’s performance in written test and PI rounds.
IIT Roorkee offers admission to a few of the Integrated programmes based on a candidate’s performance in JEE Advanced score. Eligible aspirants need to qualify for course and college-specific cut off rank released by JoSAA through seven rounds of counselling. These programmes are offered for a duration of five years, comprising 10 semesters. The eligibility criteria required to qualify for admission to any of these courses offered at IIT Roorkee is given below:

The last year 2022 cutoff ranks for Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch.) at IIT Roorkee other than General category are - 5783 for OBC, 3162 for SC, 1382 for ST, 2804 for EWS. IIT Roorkee admission to its flagship courses BArch and BTech is based on JEE Main and JEE Advanced Counselling. For admission, students are required to apply for both JEE Main and JEE Advanced for admission to IIT Roorkee BTech. The aspirants must fill out the application form for JEE (Main) through the official website of the National Testing Agency (NTA) (nta.ac.in).
Followed by JEE Main, students are required to register for JEE Advanced. Next, candidates have to fill in the registration form, upload scanned certificates, and pay the application fee. The photo and signature in the online JEE Advanced application form will already be populated from the JEE Main application form.

In the Tuition Fee Waiver Scheme, a student gets his/her tuition fee waived as per the following criteria.
Full Tuition Fee Waiver– Offered to the most economically backward students having a family income of less than INR 1 LPA during the previous financial year or current assessment year.
2/3 Tuition Fee Waiver– Offered to economically backward students having a family income in the range of INR 1 LPA to INR 5 LPA during the previous financial year or current assessment year
The Tuition Fee Waiver Scheme is available only for the normal duration of the programme. For dual degree programmes, it is available only up to the 4th year.

Students may get admission in IIT Roorkee with 80% in Class 12 as the minimum aggregate ranges between 50% to 75% in Class 12 boards. However, admissions to the programmes at IIT Roorkee are done on entrance basis. Hence, Class 12 marks are not enough. Students also need to have valid entrance test scores.

Yes, IIT Roorkee offers an MBA programme under the department of Management. The eligibility criteria to get admission to IIT Roorkee MBA course are mentioned below:
Eligibility Criteria: Passed a graduation degree/ professional qualification in any stream from a UGC-recognised university with a minimum of 60% aggregate (55% for SC/ ST/ PwD candidates). Final year students* are also eligible to apply.
Presently, IIT Roorkee offers more than 65 UG, PG and doctoral degree courses. Yes, for candidates belonging to the OBC category, admission is possible to a few courses at IIT Roorkee with a JEE Advanced cutoff rank of 4000 in the first round. The cutoff ranks vary by rounds, courses and categories. For the OBC category, courses available with a cutoff rank of 4000 are given below:

For last year, the closing rank for B.Tech. in Chemical Engineering was 5075 which is very close to this range. This was for general category under All India quota. Unless the candidate belongs to some other category or domicile, one cannot afford to score less than this. With this rank, there is a probability of getting admission however since, the cut offs keep changing year on year, it is advisable to try to score better ranks to increase your chances of getting admission in IIT Roorkee.

The average & median packages given during IIT Roorkee MTech Placements for the year 2024 stood at 13.48 LPA & 12 LPA, respectively. As per media reports, the max. domestic & international packages given during IIT Roorkee placements in the yr 2024 were 150 LPA & 205 LPA, respectively. The average package given across various courses was around 20 LPA in 2024.
