Mystory@Rishav: How I chose my course and college
Honestly, choosing a course stream in class 11 was tough because I didn’t know what would be good for me. Also, I was confused as all my close friends opted for Commerce (friendship is one of the most influential factors during this teenage period). However, I went ahead with my instincts and my secret love for Science. Now, the question was to whether opt for Mathematics or Biology. I disliked both Mathematics and Biology. But since my hatred towards Biology was more so Mathematics won.
Choosing a college is a difficult task in a country like ours, that too in Engineering Stream because a single bad exam can change everything. I preferred a good college over a good branch. So after my JEE Mains result, I shortlisted a few colleges, out of which BIT Mesra caught my attention. BIT Mesra being one of the top private Engineering institutions in India helped me in cementing the decision. At last, I am here and feel satisfied with my decision.
How I cracked college admission
I had made up my mind about Engineering by the end of Class 12. Moreover, the place where I come shapes the mindset of children since childhood that a stable conventional career is better than an unconventional path. So, from the list of convention and safe careers Engineering was closest to me and here I am.
I sat for JEE Mains and JEE Advanced. Apart from that, I appeared for BITSAT and VITEEE. I took coaching classes at Vibrant Academy Pvt. Ltd. In Kota, Rajasthan. In my case, it was more about choosing the college rather than cracking admission in the college of my dreams. My Board exam marks and entrance exam marks led me to BIT Mesra. But, it was not that easy. In the counselling process I had a hard time deciding on my college as though BIT-Mesra was my first choice, other colleges of national repute also attracted me. During the counselling and in accordance with my rank the colleges that I tried were NIT-Jaipur, NIT-Jameshedpur, NIT-Rourkela and NIT-Raipur.
What I learned in my college years
When I came to college, I had convinced myself that this is the place is where I will do what I like and there would be nobody to stop me. After a year of continuous and rigorous studies in Kota, I had achieved what I defined as freedom for myself. Now, the last thing I wanted to do was study. So, I joined the non-technical clubs and they gradually became a part and parcel of my life. Most of my time would be devoted in these club activities. Apart from that I resumed playing Basketball and got selected into the University team. After I entered my second year I got interested in Graphic Designing and then a new phase started in my career. I started spending more and more time learning the same and in soon I started working as a freelancer. It provided me both Independence and sense opportunity
I love to hang out with my friends and seniors and a huge chunk of my time is also spent in college parties.
I liked some classes in my first year as most were related to what we had already studied. After that when Chemical Engineering entered into my course, I hardly liked any of the listed subjects, I don’t know why but I wasn’t able to find interested in the course. I have been associated with Photography, Graphic Designing and Sports clubs in college. Also, I love to be a part of organizing teams of the College Fest or other major events.
If given a chance, then this is what it would be: Eat-Travel-Photography-Design. I also love to learn new things, so learning something new every month would also be on my list.
My college life has made me more a mature person, given me a sense of individuality, made me independent, calm, composed, confident and moreover made me realize the importance of working as a team and at the same time taught me how to lead that team to achieve whatever we aspire.
