Sourabh Jain topped the CLAT PG 2019 exam with All India Rank (AIR) 10. Know what preparation strategy he adopted and books he read to crack the exam.

Sourabh Jain, a final year BLS LLB student at Government Law College, Mumbai, cracked the CLAT PG 2019 exam with a total score of 101/150. An extremely dedicated student, Sourabh always wanted to pursue law as his career.

He belongs to a middle class family residing in a small village named, Badagaon (Dhasan). His father is a businessman and mother is a homemaker. Out of his two elder brothers, one is a Professor and other one a Software Engineer. His younger brother is pursuing BCA from Bhopal.

In his free time, Sourabh likes reading books related to theology, writing poems and articles on current topics, playing cricket and cooking. In a candid interview with Shiksha, Sourabh shares his CLAT preparation strategy, study schedule, future plans and more. Read the complete with Sourabh Jain below:

Q. Congratulations! Did you expect to be the topper of CLAT 2019?

A.

I was not expecting this rank before the exam but after the exam I was confident that I would get a good score.

Q. Could you tell us your preparation strategy that helped you crack CLAT exam?

A.

I didn’t specifically prepare for CLAT. I was preparing for the Rajasthan Judiciary (Prelims) Examination which helped me a lot in the CLAT objective portion. As far as the subjective portion was concerned, I followed the current legal development news from The Hindu newspaper and Live Law's highlight on Supreme Court judgments.

Q. Did you taking any coaching for this exam?

A.

No, I completely relied on self-study for this exam.

Q. What study plan did you follow for this exam?

A.

Consistency is the key to crack any exam and I relied on this only. I consistently revised bare acts. I spent 1-2 hours daily on reading important judgments of Supreme Court. I focused more on the subjects in which I was strong and spent more time on them only.

I also compared CLAT past question papers and chalked out a strategy as to which subjects require revision. Jurisprudence as a subject is very vast and tricky and every year the number of unexpected questions increases. I spent less preparation time over it and preferred watching online lectures on YouTube.

Q. Which books did you read to prepare for the exam?

A.

I referred Dr. DD Basu's - The Introduction of Constitution and Dr. VD Mahajan's Jurisprudence. For rest of the subjects I studied bare acts only.

Q. How did you deal with your strengths and weaknesses while preparing for the exam?

A.

With a set aim in life, one can easily focus on the right path with no distractions. My strength of being an avid reader helped me to revise subjects more often.

Q. Did you give CLAT UG? If yes, how is CLAT UG different from CLAT PG?

A.

Yes I did, CLAT UG checks your basic knowledge of Law, Maths, English, Aptitude etc. But CLAT PG is specifically related to legal knowledge only.

Q. What other law entrance exams did you take or are planning to take?

A.

I appeared for AILET (PG) also.

Q. Any tips for students who are planning to take the exam next year?

A.

Prepare your own schedule, use more and more technology for study and avoid other social sites as far as possible. And last, be consistent in your study.

Q. What are your future plans?

A.

I am looking for jobs in Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) and side by side planning to crack judicial services examinations.
