University of Petroleum and Energy Studies Law Studies Aptitude Test (ULSAT) is one of the important law exams for individuals apart from several other exams such as CLAT, AILET, SET. Preparing for the ULSAT exam demands a well-estimated preparation strategy. Candidates who are preparing for this exam must know how to prepare to score reasonably good marks. Shiksha.com here provides essentials about ULSAT 2020 exam pattern and suggestions for how to study for this ULSAT. This exam is an online exam for three hours. The candidate is required to attempt one hundred fifty questions for one hundred and fifty marks. There is no negative marking in this exam. If I talk about the marks allotted to each section, it goes as follows:

Quantitative Aptitude and Legal Aptitude

In this section different number of arguments are framed and put to assess the candidate. The candidate is supposed to have healthy acumen to understand these arguments and should be able to make decisions for the same.  Aspirants should focus on calculation based problems that are the questions related to a percentage, Simple Interest, Compound Interest, Simplification, Square Root and Cube Root, Stocks and Shares, etc. Therefore to deal with this section one needs to develop logical bent of mind and that is only possible with practice. The candidate is suggested to use the book mentioned in this article for the preparation of this section. Mathematics always needs lots of practice and is based on the retention of formula. Prepare your notes of formula, practice four to five years of previous question papers. Identify the concepts or topics that have been given every year in this exam. Attempt the online test available. Try to use Quantitative Aptitude by RS Aggarwal book.

For legal aptitude, the aspirant should concentrate on topics such as criminal law where you should know all the Indian Penal Code. Law of Tort wherein you need to understand the importance of Tort and when this is used. Indian constitution wherein you need to be familiar with all the significant articles in the constitution of India.

Language Comprehension

This section evaluates how good you are with your command over the English language. This is usually assessed through unseen passages that the student has to understand. Good reading skills are the only essential to score well in this section. Based on unseen passage student is suppose to answer the questions. This section also assesses grammar and vocabulary. To be proficient in grammar and vocabulary candidate need to adopt effective methods for learning and requires efficient expert’s guidance. Reading the newspaper and learning new words will help you to score well in this section. Use the new words you have learned in your daily life. Wren & Martin's book can be used to improve grammar.

Logical Reasoning

This part evaluates how logical you are in the context of the law and also assess your ability to think legally. Students are evaluated through situation reaction tests, wherein they are given different situations related to legal aspects and students are required to give their reactions to these situations. This section deals with the state of mind and mental process of a candidate and evaluates the sharpness of your mind. Candidates should concentrate on learning important terminologies.

Important books for ULSAT

Books play a vital role in the preparation of a competitive exam. There are several books available for ULSAT preparation. Below are a few important books given for reference.

Universal logical reasoning for CLAT and other law exams by Prateek Jain, LSAT Logical Reasoning by Manhattan Prep, Quantitative Aptitude Numerical Ability by Kiran Prakash, Quickest Mathematics Quantitative Aptitude and Numerical Ability by SN Prasad, Legal GK Paperback by Universals, Universals GK on Law by Manish Arora.

Legal General Knowledge

This particular part will assess the aspirant's knowledge on several Law and legal information, District court, High court, Supreme court, and constitutional data. Aspirants are advised to read the newspaper. This will help you in two ways, you will be developing your reading skills which is essential for the verbal section. A second important benefit is you will be updated with current affairs which will help you in group discussion and personal interview. It is suggested to attempt an online test for Legal GK.  You can use a book written by RK Gupta for this particular section. 

Last but not least please takes good care of your health, sound sleep and a healthy diet play a vital role in this whole process of preparation. You should not worry about the exam and result so much that you ignore these two important aspects. This will help you in retaining more of what you have learned inefficient manner.
