Aligarh Muslim University, also known as AMU, is a public university, established in Aligarh, UP in 1920. AMU is UGC approved and is accredited with an A+ grade by NAAC. The university is also a member of the AIU. Aligarh Muslim University has been ranked 10th by NIRF ranking 2025 under the 'Universities' category.
Aligarh Muslim University UP offers about 300 courses at UG, PG, PhD and diploma levels. Yes, Aligarh Muslim University admission to most of the courses is based on CUET scores. Admission to AMU undergraduate courses including BSc (Hons.) Community Science, BA (Hons/Research), BVoc in Production Technology, Polymer and Coating Technology and Fashion Design & Garment Technology and BSc (Hons/Research) is completely based on valid Central University Entrance Test (CUET-UG) scores. For undergraduate admission to courses, including BA (Hons), BVoc and BSc (Hons) through CUET-UG, candidates must have a valid CUET-UG score. For BA (Hons) admission, candidates must have to attempt the Domain/ General/ Languages sections of CUET while appearing for the entrance test along with the minimum eligibility criteria set by AMU. Final selection for most of the UG and PG courses via CUET is based on candidates' performance in the counselling round. Talking about the minimum eligibility requirement for AMU UG courses, candidates must have passed the Class 12 with a minimum aggregate of 50%. AMU MA is a two-year postgraduate programme offered in the full-time mode. Candidates who have scored at least 50% in Bachelor's Degree in a relevant discipline are eligible to pursue MA at the university. Hence, a candidate scoring less that 50% in their graduation degree is not eligible to apply for the programme. Such candidates can pursue MA at some other college or university. AMU NEET Cutoff 2025 was released till Round 5 for admission to the MBBS and BDS courses. AMU accepts the NEET Cutoff ranks, followed by AMU NEET Counselling for admission to the medical courses. The AMU Cutoff 2025 for NEET was released for all categories under the All India quota.
For the General category candidates, the cutoff for MBBS course admission was 12762, according to the last round closing ranks. For the BDS course admission, the last round closing rank was 29279. Please note that the cutoff ranks vary for each category, round, courses, etc.
AMU Admission Process and Important Dates 2026
The mode of Aligarh Muslim University course admissions is online. Admission to various courses is based on merit and entrance scores. The accepted entrance exams are the AMU Entrance Exam, CUET, and others. Candidates willing to get admission must first visit the Aligarh Muslim University official website, which is www.amu.ac.in/. Select the course and pay the total application fee. Fill out and submit the application form with the required information. The Faculty of Law, AMU is located in Uttar Pradesh India. It offers courses like BA LLB (Bachelor's in Arts with Bachelors in Law) and LLM Programme (Master of Laws). Aligarh Muslim University offers a full-time BSc course at the undergraduate level. Candidates seeking admission to AMU for BSc must visit the official website of the University to apply online. AMU BSc admission is completely entrance-based. Depending upon the BSc specialisation chosen by a candidate, the admission is provided based on candidates' marks in either AMU Entrance Exam or CUET-UG. Based on the entrance exam scores, AMU will release a merit list of selected students. As a final step, selected students need to pay the admission fee to confirm their seats.
AMU releases course-wise Firm Lists on based on CUET as well. AMU Counselling 2023 is to be conducted up to maximum of ten rounds for some courses like BTech whereas for other courses it is majorly conducted till seven or eight rounds, depending on the availability of the seats. AMU releases the Select List or the Interview Lists for the candidates who have been provisionally selected for AMU Counselling 2023, followed by the release of Firm Lists which contain the name of students finally selected for admissions after the counselling. AMU offers MSc as a two-year postgraduate programme offered in the full-time mode. Hence, a candidate scoring less that 50% in their graduation degree is not eligible to apply for the programme. Such candidates can pursue MSc at some other college or university. AMUEEE 2026 will be held on April 19 as a pen and paper based test. All candidates have to qualify AMUEEE exam to be eligible for admission.
A nationwide entrance exam called the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) is required for admission to all undergraduate degrees at all central universities. Registration for CUET UG 2024 closed at 11:50 p.m. on April 5, 2024. The online application for CUET 2024 was open. The CUET 2024 admission card was made available by the National Testing Agency via exams.nta.ac.in/CUET-UG/ on May 29. The CUET 2024 exam for Delhi centres was originally planned for May 15, but the NTA has moved it to May 29. Aligarh Muslim University BA application process is conducted online. Interested candidates can visit the admission portal on the university's official website to submit their applications. Candidates seeking admission to the BA specialisations where CUET UG is the selection criteria must separately apply for the entrance exam by visiting the exam portal on NTA's website. Following the entrance exam, candidates must register for the AMU counselling. This can be done by visiting the university's official website and clicking on "Online Counselling/Admission Portal". Candidates who have appeared for the AMU Entrance Exam will have to log in using the credentials generated during the application process. AMU conducts its own entrance test called Aligarh Muslim University Common Admission Test (AMU-CAT) for admission to the MBA course. The Admission Test shall be held at Aligarh, Kolkata & Kozhikode. Based on the marks secured by the candidates in the AMU-CAT entrance test, a merit list for admission will be drawn. Candidates whose names appear in the merit list released by the University are then required to appear for the Group Discussion & Personal Interview (GD & PI) round.
The CUET result 2025 will be declared tentatively in last week of July 2025. All of those candidates who will appear for the exam can download their CUET Scorecard online after its release. The link to check the CUET result card will be updated on CUET exam results , and the candidates are supposed to log in to view the CUET 2025 scorecard online. The CUET scores are used for admission to various universities/colleges that the candidates had applied for while filling in the application form. Candidates are advised to download and take a printed copy of the CUET 2025 results when they are released.
