NEST Marking Scheme 2026

Candidates have to check the NEST exam pattern to know the marking scheme. NEST question paper 2026 will have four sections. Each section will have 20 multiple choice questions (MCQs). Every question carries 3 marks. Negative marking is done for wrong answers.

Getting admission to NISER with 60 marks totally depends on candidates category. Candidates belonging to General category has less chance of getting admision with 60 marks in NEST. However, students belonging to SC/ST category have better chance of admission. The entire decision of admission will be based on the cutoff trends and Section-wise Minimum Admissible Score (SMAS). 

Q:   How to calculate NEST score?

Candidates can calculate their NEST scoring based on marking scheme. NEST questions will carry 3 marks per answer. Negative marking is done for wrong answers. 

Total Marks = 3 * Correct Answers - Wrong Answers 

Q:   What is the NEST exam total marks?
A: 

The total marks for NEST exam is 240 marks. However, the exam authority will consider marks out of 180 to prepare the merit list. 

Q:   is there any sectional weightage to any section in NEST exam?
A: 

There is equal weightage for each section of the NEST exam. There are four sections, each carrying 60 marks. There is negative marking of one mark for wrong answers.

How to Attempt NEST Questions?

As mentioned above, the NEST exam duration is 180 minutes, and there will be 80 questions. Candidates will have around two minutes per question. The best way to attempt NEST questions according to the exam time is mentioned below.

  • Candidates must give priority to the easy sections.
  • Candidates will have approx 2 minutes to solve a question.
  • Do not guess the answer. Negative marking is done for wrong attempts.
  • Leave the doubtful question. Try solving them after attempting all other questions.
  • Visit all questions if time is left before the final submission.

No, NEST exam is conducted once a year. NEST 2026 exam was conducted on June 6, 2026. The exam timing was 2 PM to 5 PM.
