Q: I am currently in 11th. What is the appropriate time for me to apply for IISER entrance exam?

A: Hi Sruti,
As you are studying in class 11th, it is the best time to start your preparations for IISER. As IISER is one of the toughest exams, it will be better to give more time to yourself. The syllabus is same as class 11th and 12th. You can refer to NCERT for your preparation to clear your concepts and to make your fundamentals strong. Paper is based on your concepts only. You can make your important notes which will help you at the time of revision. You can solve as many as MCQs for your practice and complete mock test series to work on your strength and weakness.
Good luck.

Q: I have done HSC and currently I am doing B.Sc in chemistry. Can I apply for IISER entrance exam?

A: For BSMS dual degree, you can apply for IISER's up to 1 year of drop. That is, you should have passed 12th in the year of admission or the year before. If you have passed before that, then, unfortunately, you can't apply. For Masters or Ph.D. courses, IISERs don't have their entrance exam.

Q: Is it necessary to attend both bio and math in IISER aptitude test? I don't have math in my class 12.

A: No, it's not compulsory, but you will be asked questions from all four subjects in the exam. Each subject has 45 marks in total, i.e., total marks of the test is 180 out of which around 105 marks are safe for you to get your first preference. But it's better to prepare subject you don't have (in this case Maths, as there are some basic questions which you can do with little practice).

There are four sections in the exam, and all have equal weightage. Mentioned below are the details for the same:
Biology:
This section might sound a tough nut to crack for the PCM students, but a reasonable understanding of class 11 and 12 NCERT concepts can help you sail through this section. If you are not familiar with Biology try to ace the Maths section. As the number of test-takers has grown over the years, this section has also seen a surged difficulty level. Maths:
For the Biology students, it might be hard to crack. You need to focus on 11th and 12th class concepts. You can search for the doable questions and solve them. The level is usually at par or even above JEE Mains. The Biology students can cover the scores in their specialised section. Physics and Chemistry:
This section is usually easier than the above two sections. The scores obtained here can make-or-break your chances for counselling. The questions in these two sections cover the fundamental and essential concepts. It is better to score well in these two sections. The sections are not really tough. They are far away from the difficulty level of JEE Advance. Overall, the exam is far from the JEE Advanced level. The Biology students have the advantage to finish their section quicker. Make sure your fundamentals are clear and your reasoning ability is good. This should be enough to secure a good score.
