B.E. in Mechanical Engineering, Pilani Campus - Batch of 2027
4.8
Overview of BITS Pilani, campus life, academics, placements, extra curriculars.
Placements: The placements are one of the best if you're looking to graduate in B.Tech core roles. Mechanical roles offer >12 LPA and electrical roles reaching an average of 30 LPA. IT placements offer one of the highest placements, with most people getting around 25-30 LPA, and the top companies offering more than 50 LPA. Around 85% of the batch gets placed with a deviation of 5%, and the placement amount usually depends not just on CGPA but rather on an overall resume, soft skills, as well as roles played in clubs (position of responsibility). Estimate for mechanical core: 15-18 LPA.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure is pretty decent with air-conditioned classrooms, a well-maintained library with a lot of resources that you can issue for free with a college id. The Wi-Fi connectivity spans almost the whole campus, but mobile data connectivity is limited. Hostels are decent, common washrooms are a problem, though, but overall 8.5/10 relatively to other colleges. Well mess food is a problem, but we all get used to it. Sports facilities are great. There's a student activity center where one can enjoy almost all indoor sports, and outdoor sports can be played at well maintained ground available.
Faculty: Most teachers are highly qualified, usually have done lots of great research, especially if you're looking to do some projects under them. Teaching material and quality are helpful, and usually the tests are quite challenging, requiring a thorough knowledge of the course. Attendance is less strict than in other colleges, and one gets a lot of opportunities to build their profile in terms of extracurriculars. Usually, the passing criteria for exams are not much, but to get a good grade, consistency is required. Regarding relevancy, almost every course's content is updated every year, related to new technologies available.
Other: I chose mechanical because of getting into the Pilani campus mostly, and less interest in the Phoenix and M.Sc. branches. The best part about mechanical is the broadness of the course, with various things to learn from fluids, heat transfers, manufacturing, and opportunities in non-core roles. The events at BITs are one of the best, with Oasis being the most popular. The crowd is lively. Nightlife is good. The campus is situated in a small town, so not much to do outside the campus. Scholarships are available: merit and merit cum need. More information is available on BIT's website.

It is a very good place to nourish your skills.
Placements: There are 140 students in the mechanical branch. Almost 95% of students got placed in our course. Few students either opted for higher studies or focused on startups. Top recruiting companies are Mercedes Benz, Tata, etc. The highest salary package offered was 25 LPA. It is good for a person to start a professional life.
Infrastructure: There is only one boys' hostel, which has AC vents and others don't have them. Washrooms are neat and clean. The food quality is average. They provide ice creams, hot chocolate milk, etc. They provide chicken and paneer twice a week.
Faculty: Faculty members are the best. They have very good knowledge about their courses. They give their best to make sure that students can understand well. Some courses like general biology, human electives, etc., are not much effective. These courses make our minds diversify our knowledge, which can help us in the future. Exams are difficult. In some exams, we are allowed to take our books and handwritten notes. Those tests are more difficult.
Other: I chose this course because I already had an interest in it. I was fascinated by the mechanical things around me.

Review of Birla Institute of Technology and Science Pilani.
Placements: BITS was known for its opportunities for placements and most of the students were placed. There were other opportunities from industries and from practice schools. BITS offered as a compulsory project which involved working on industrial projects. The highest salary package would be for CS students but BITS's core group opportunities were also quite good. However, the initial salary package for the core group was more petite. With an increase in experience, it would increase.
Infrastructure: BITS is known for its collection of journals and books on international aspects. It had a good number of publications.
Other: I have got IIT, Patna in JoSAA counseling and I had a chance to get electrical in BITS because I did well in the BITS test but mechanical engineering is my interest. I opted for it. The BITS Pilani campus was equivalent to the top 5 IITs. Moreover, it was unique in its industrial culture of practice school and BITS also provided good research opportunities. They conducted OASIS, APOGEE, and BOSM which were cultural, technical, and sports fests held at BITS. Excellent clubs and societies provided opportunities to work on various innovative projects and support our classroom learning. It had a few technical clubs like Operation and Strategic Management, which were led by students. By cultivating leadership qualities, BITS focuses on the overall development of a student's career and develops an individual as a leader.

Review of BITS Pilani - Birla Institute of Technology and Science.
Placements: Everyone who wants placements at BITS gets it. The average salary pacakge offered varies from 50 LPA to 10 LPA. The minimum salary pacakge offered is around 20 LPA. Top recruiting companies are Google, Microsoft, Samsung, JPMC, Goldman Sachs, Uber, Cisco, Hindustan Unilever, Baja Auto, Mercedes Benz, etc. Roles offered include software engineer, data engineer, analyst, graduate engineer, etc.
Infrastructure: It provides fully air conditioner classrooms, a huge library with both air-conditioner and non-air-conditioner rooms. Wi-Fi facility at every place on the campus. Canteens, restaurants, super market, every basic need shop are available on the campus. It has renovated hostel and mess. Separate play area for almost all popular indoor and outdoor games. The medical center is also present on the campus.
Faculty: It has highly qualified professors with a collaborative attitude. Teaching quality is one of the best in the country. The course curriculum is very flexible and student-friendly, with practical knowledge of working in industries as a part of the curriculum. Semester exams are difficult but in the end, it does not matter because of relative grading.
Other: I opted for mechanical engineering because of my interest in mechanics and thermodynamics. The best thing at BITS is that students are allowed to study whatever they want and will be able to find a job for it through the campus itself. Lots of clubs and departments work actively throughout the year for organising fest and other events. There are 3 major fests including BOSM the sports fest, OASIS the cultural fest, and APOGEE the technical fest.

It provides good placements along with decent infrastructure.
Placements: Many core and non-core roles are offered, especially finance, consulting, and core mechanical and supply chain roles are also offered. The average package is also better as compared to other colleges, comparable to IITs, practice school 2 is an added advantage.
Infrastructure: Hostels are good and spacious. The mess food is decent, and the infrastructure is also good. Mess food is decent and other cafeterias are also there which provides decent food at a reasonable rate, and there are some outlets outside campus also but they are average.
Faculty: Teachers have vast experience and they help students with all the issues. They help students by providing various study-oriented projects, and laboratories are also fully equipped with most of the requirements needed at the undergraduate level of studies for the students.

College culture and campus life are great, and teaching facilities are excellent.
Placements: About 80% of the students got placed. The average salary package offered is 13 LPA, and the highest salary package offered is 40 LPA by Daikin for the mechanical course. Roles offered are decent for mechanical course students. The average salary package offered is higher this time for the mechanical field than non-core sectors like IT and consulting. IT placements for the mechanical field vary by portfolio.
Infrastructure: The hostel for 1st year is average, but it gets better. Hostels are equipped with LAN with a 10 GB per day limit, and from the 2nd year, hostels are Wi-Fi equipped. There is a swimming pool, gymnasiums, sports fields and shopping centres. Mess food quality is above average with a lot of varieties.
Faculty: There is no attendance policy. You can still give exams if your attendance is below 75%, as in other colleges, without any repercussions. Still, grading is tough, and the average grade ISC is 6 GPA instead of B 8 GPA. I wish the college to updated the course curriculum since 2019 batches. The new mech curriculum is more modern and tech-oriented instead of traditional. There are two exams, i.e., mid-semester and comprehensive exams. Tutorial tests may be a surprise in nature.

It is a good college with a beautiful campus and a great culture.
Placements: About 100% of the students from our course got placed. The highest salary package offered in our course is 35 LPA, and the average salary package offered is 13 LPA, and the lowest salary package offered is 5 LPA. Top recruiting companies like Amazon, Cisco, Oracle, JPMS, JPMC, Goldman Sachs, Sprinklr, Paypal, Razorpay, Swiggy and Microsoft visit our campus for placements. Top profiles like SDE, consultancy and an associate engineer are offered to the students. Almost 99% of the students got an internship at the college. About 50% of the students got PPO from an internship.
Infrastructure: Each facility is available here. The Wi-Fi facility is decent. The library is quite huge. Food is served in the canteen till 3:00 AM. Medical facilities, sports facilities and a gym are available. Everything is easily accessible here. A mess serve above-average standard food.
Faculty: Teachers in our college are helpful, qualified, and knowledgeable. Their teaching quality is good. The course curriculum is relevant, and it makes the students industry-ready. Exams are quite difficult in college. The minimum GPA to pass is 4.5 out of 10. The average GPA of our batch is 6.9 out of 10.

Come at BITS, explore our clubs (we have more than 100 clubs), and achieve what you want.
Placements: Around 40 companies come for core placements in the mechanical department offering between 8-15 lakhs. Many international stations offers above 25 Lacs too but only 5-10 students get those. Average in core is Rs 7-8 LPA and median is Rs 6.9 LPA in core, specifically. BHEL, ISRO, Mercedes Benz, Toyota, Maruti and Ashok Leyland offered the most and recruited around 30% top performing students in total offering between Rs 10-20 LPA.
Infrastructure: Infrastructure is in process as many hostels are given a modular look and toilets are increased to accomodate. Labs and classrooms are really spacious (200 students in a single sitting). Wi-Fi is good offering 6GB at 30-40MBPS. Mess food is good and by my experience, better than DTU, IIT Delhi and NSUT.
Faculty: The best part of BITS is the faculty. 80% are post-doctorates from top universities around the world like MIT, CIT, Stanford and London school of business. They can give you an opportunity to work under them if they find zeal in you and this experience counts a lot in jobs. Exams are intuitive as BITS follow MIT academic structure so if you are good in concepts, you will ace.
Other: The crowd is better than IIT here and the startup culture ranking is 3 in India. You can study many courses such as CSE, Finance, etc., irrespective of your degree. Though you need a good score for that.

Hi Sunil, BITS Pilani admissions are purely based on merit. BITS doesn't consider IIT JEE Mains Score for admission. You need to appear for BITSAT separately for securing a seat. However, If you are a Board Topper, you can avail Direct Admission at BITS Pilani. Best Wishes.
