IISc Bangalore Highlights 2026

IISc Bangalore was founded in 1909 as a Public University in Bangalore. Jamsetji Tata was one of the founding fathers of IISc Bangalore, and hence it is also known as the 'Tata Institute'. The IISc Bangalore campus is spread over 400 acres. IISc Bangalore University is ranked 1st by NIRF 2025 under the Universities category, and 2nd under the 'Overall' category. Globally, it was ranked 211 by QS World University Rankings 2025. The university is affiliated to the the All Indian Universities (AIU) and the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU). It has also been accredited NAAC ‘A++’ grade by UGC.

Courses at IISc Bangalore are offered at the UG, PG and Doctoral levels with IISc University Bangalore having 45 departments that extend 738 programmes. It can be better regarding basic residential amenities and the placement scene.

Placements: Academic instructor, researcher in various STEM fields, and in companies like ISRO, DRDO, BHEL, HAL, which are nationally recognised. Students mostly decide to continue their higher studies in scholarship Ph.D. programs abroad, and mostly do their postdoc research there.

Infrastructure: Mess food is top-notch, with cuisines available in both vegetarian and non-vegetarian for both North and South Indians. Regular fumigation is organized every week, and food quality is closely monitored. UG hostel facilities are sometimes compromised with a shortage of water and electricity, and impurities in water are found once in a while. Overall, it is average.

Faculty: The faculty is very approachable and is ready to clear the doubts and discuss stuff beyond the classroom. Teaching is in the Socratic style of discussion, inspired by the top colleges in the West. The curriculum is equipped with rigour to build the readiness of students to pursue a career in Science.

Placements: The percentage of students who get placed in my course is good. The highest package offered is 10 LPA. The average package of my course is only 4 LPA. Top recruiting companies that visit the college are from India. The percentage of students who got internships from my course is 80%.

Infrastructure: Facilities and infrastructure available in my department are very good. Wi-Fi is not available in my course. All things are present for students. The quality of code made in my college is good. Medical and sports facilities are available for all students.

Faculty: Teachers in my course are helpful, but they are not knowledgeable. They have great teaching qualities. The course curriculum is relevant, and it makes students industry-ready. Semester exams in my course are easy. More than 95% of students pass with good marks.

Placements: As I have seen I can say that campus placement conditions have improved in IISc after the inception of the campus placement cell. The average package is around 25 LPA. Since most of the students go for higher studies from IISc, you will see the placement percentage to be low. I am also going for higher studies so this is the placement experience.

Infrastructure: From what I have seen, the college has quite a good infrastructure compared to the other colleges in the city. Wi-Fi service is available all around the campus. Our classrooms are very clean. The library has a good collection of books. We have clean washrooms. The hostel does not have good things. The food is the worst. Sports are good.

Faculty: Faculty members are helpful and well-qualified, like Ph.D. holders. The teaching quality is good, and the course makes students industry-ready. Semester exams are more difficult than those at other colleges, but they help in building students. The passing CGPA is above 9. Overall good experience.

Placements: Placement and job opportunities here are excellent. The total number of companies visiting for placements is much higher than any other college in the class. The list of companies includes LnT, Infosys, Tech Mahindra, Jindal Steel, Wipro, TCS, A2Z Solutions, and the list goes on. There is a placement cell at the university that assists students in securing placements. They prepare students for upcoming opportunities.

Infrastructure: The course curriculum is very lucrative. As a student of accounts and tax, I was taught these subjects in great depth. Additionally, regular classes were held, which proved to be extremely helpful as we had just transitioned from school to college. Exams were held semester-wise, meaning we had internal assessments twice a year. The hostel infrastructure is rated 7 out of 10, the food 9 out of 10, hostel facilities 7 out of 10, gym facilities 8 out of 10, and strictness 5 out of 10. Some strict rules can make students feel aggressive.

Faculty: The faculty at this university is excellent, and all the teachers are highly skilled. They also provide extracurricular activities. All faculty members hold Ph.D. degrees, and they are very cooperative and responsible. The semester system is in place, which includes 2 CA tests in a single year and 2 semester-end exams each year. Every subject includes practical work, which encompasses assignments and projects.

Infrastructure: The overall facilities and infrastructure available for our department are very good. The classrooms and labs are very clean and comfortable. Multiple sports and medical facilities are present. Wi-Fi facilities are also available. A vast collection of books are present in the library.

Q: Can I get admission in IISC or IIIT through lateral entry as I am currently in my first year of B.Tech in Amity University, Raipur?

IISc and IIIT are not doing lateral admission in B.Tech courses. The admission in IISc in B.Tech courses are based on JEE Advanced ranks, while JEE Main is for IIITs.

Q: Can I do M.Tech at IISc without GATE?

No, candidate who are looking for admission at IISC Bangalore need to have a valid GATE score. However, 70% GATE score + 30% performance in written test (100% GATE based for Aerospace, Chemical, Civil, Materials Engg.) + COAP counselling will be accepted. Apart from this, students might face some problems while downloading the GATE hall ticket 2024. The problem might be due to slow internet connectivity or a heavy load on the server. In such situations, candidates should try downloading the admit card after a short duration. In case any candidate forgets their application ID/Enrollment ID or password, they can reset it. IISc Bangalore Infrastructure

The campus size of the Indian Institute of Science Bangalore is spread over 400 acres. It has separate hostels for boys and girls with well furnished rooms and internet connectivity. The other facilities provided to the students of the college include:

1. Library: IISc has a grand Central Library with a large collection of books, journals, and electronic resources, including online access to major Scientific Databases.

2. Hostels: There is also hostel accommodation for the students on the IISc campus. A common room is also provided in the IISc hostel that has a television for entertainment and leisure time. They have hostels for both boys and girls. Along with that, it has a mess facility for food.

3. Sports: A IISc campus for outdoor games such as cricket, volleyball, basketball, etc, and an indoor space for games such as chess is an essential part of the IISc campus.

4. Laboratories: Modern labs for practical and research purposes that can enhance and boost learning power are a part of the IISc campus. The laboratories allow students to conduct experiments and gain practical knowledge for their particular courses.

IISc Bangalore is about 35 km from the airport. One could take a taxi from the airport. The city railway station is about 7 km from the IISc Bangalore campus. One will have to leave the station from platform number one to reach the taxi stand. Majestic (7kms from IISc) is the central Bus stand in Bengaluru and is just opposite the City Railway Station. If one happens to reach Majestic, Bengaluru by bus, go to the city bus platform number 22, from where almost all city buses come to the Institute.
