The National Institute of Technology, Durgapur is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education. The institute is also accredited by the National Board of Accreditation. NIT Durgapur has been ranked 43 under the 'Engineering' category by the NIRF Ranking 2023. Additionally, the top recruiters of NIT Durgapur in 2023 included Microsoft, Steradian, Morgan Stanley, Caterpillar, etc. As per the latest media reports, Microsoft offered the highest package so far which stood at INR 51 LPA.
NIT Durgapur does not provide a BSc programme, but an Integrated BSc + MSc programme in Chemistry. The duration of the programme is five years. It leads to a dual-degree, i.e. a BSc and an MSc degree in Chemistry. NITD has an intake of 19 students for the five-year programme. NIT Durgapur admissions for MTech is based on GATE score. The institute offers seats under Sponsored and Self-Sponsored Category. On analysing the trend of JEE (Main) cutoff for different BTech courses in NIT Durgapur, it can be said that getting admission in BTech CSE is most difficult as the JEE (Main) cutoff for BTech CSE is higher than for all other NIT Durgapur BTech courses.

NIT may permit change in branch of BTech of a student admitted through JEE (Main) after the second semester if there are any vacancies in that branch based upon JoSAA/CSAB seat matrix category wise.
Only those students will be considered for change of branch who have:
