Review of Presidency University, Kolkata.
Placements: About 10% of the students from our course got placed. Out of a class of 21 students, about 12 students opted to pursue a PhD, while 3 students cracked the GSI exam conducted by UPSC. The average salary package offered is 7 LPA. The top recruiter for our course is Vedanta. About 3 students secured a PhD in foreign universities, and industrial training is mandatory in the master's course. Major companies which offer training include ONGC, Oil India Limited, Coal India, SAIL, Tata Steel, etc.
Infrastructure: Every department has a dedicated Wi-Fi facility. There are departmental libraries, along with a central science library and a central arts library. Every classroom is air-conditioned and has smart classroom facilities. The quality of the facilities provided in the hostel is good. The hostel is better than most of the hostels in Kolkata. There are good cricket and football practice facilities.
Faculty: The geology department is one of the best in India. Most of the students give more emphasis on research than jobs. The research environment here is excellent with stellar laboratory facilities. There are facilities include SEM, XRF, XRD, mass spectrometer, etc.
Other: I have chosen this course because there are fieldworks and esteemed faculty members. As of now, there is no need for improvement in our course. But some of the faculty members are on the verge of retirement, so their replacement is necessary. Our college organises 3 major cultural fests and events. Means-cum-merit scholarships are provided here, and the campus is located near metro stations and major buses.
