B.Tech. in Electrical Engineering (Lateral Entry) - Batch of 2023
Offered by Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University

It has a great atmosphere and campus surrounding.
Placements: There is no such thing as placement fair or anything related to it. On the college website of placement field, they have a detailed brief about college instead of placement record because there is no placement, and only mass recruiters come to this university. The electrical engineering course is the latest entry in their academic curriculum, so the first batch would pass out in 2022. There is a placement cell in this university. They didn't even update their content on the university site. No bank offers the loan if you want to get a loan on the basis of placements at this university. Students got salary packages out of the college, so there is no information regarding the highest and the lowest salary packages. Students who got placed in the university are offered a salary package of 2 to 4 LPA. They appreciate students doing an internship, and our university offers workshops and internships as most of the students from the Jammu area don't get an internship. There is nothing in the electrical engineering course as they don't have their own department and HOD. There are only two faculty members, and one of them is totally ignorant.
Infrastructure: Wi-Fi is in the worst condition and during the abrogation of article 370, the internet connection was shut down only for students, and teachers were using it. During normal days, internet connection is not stable on this campus. The electrical department doesn't have its own department, so there is a lack of space. They conduct combined classes for electrical and civil students in the first year, which doesn't happen in third-tier college in India. Labs are available here with sufficient equipment, but you are not free to do the experiment on your own. Hostels are good only for first-year students, and all other hostels are very old. The administration is not good. Some students broke tiles of the hostel when they are cutting the line during the exam. So administration imposed the fine of more than Rs. 200 to every student in that hostel instead of punishing real culprits as students were from Jammu, and they are favoured by the administration. If you are a student from the state other than J&K, then you can get to face discrimination. Hostels don't offer washing machines, and lifts are in the new hostel, which is only for show-piece. Electricity can be cut off anytime, especially on the weekend and exam time. Medical services are available in this university, but you need permission from a supervisor, warden and inspection as they call the ambulance. It is better to go to Narayana Hospital, which is near the university. Indoor sports are available in hostels, and there is also a sports ground. The administration told that the sports complex is in construction, but I think it would be finished around 2030 or later. Food is average in this university and differs from every hostel. Food is mostly full of dishes from J&K and Punjab. They give one or two times special in six months. Sometimes they don't even provide the food due to lack of food or extra consumption of food. There is also a food chain named Sagar Ratna restaurant in the university and Nescafe in every hostel. You won't get to eat in Mcdonalds, BurgerKing or any other restaurant as the university is located in the rural area. Non-vegetarian is banned in the university, and if you got caught eating, then the hefty amount of fine is imposed like Rs. 20,000 or 30,000, or you are suspended for the whole semester. On specific days, you won't be able to get non-vegetarian as some retailers don't make it.
Faculty: Teachers are average, but not that knowledgeable and qualified. There are only two faculty members in the electrical department, and one of them is ineligible for any teaching post. He will demotivate you. Teaching quality is below average, and you have to pay the amount equal to a private college. According to UGC guidelines, you cannot admit more than 40 students in a course unless the first batch is passed out. They are mocking the rules of UGC and admitting students as much as they want. You can get admission to this university without JEE Mains and a university entrance exam if you know someone in the academic department. Students are not industry-ready, but it is not their fault as they admit students who are not capable of pursuing engineering. You get to meet students with 10 lacs CRL in JEE Mains. They got admission based on 12th marks. Before coming for the placement, companies first check the entrance exam of the institute, and this university has the lowest bar entrance exam, so other than mass recruiter no one come here. Lab assistants think of themselves as the owner of labs. They are very rude and ignorant except for one or two. I know a lab assistant who is well-knowledgeable, hard-working, and quite young, but he got transferred to IIT Jammu.
Other: Some students opt for this course because they are interested in this field. Others opt because they are not getting any other course. There is no good thing about this course. I wish the college to hire some eligible professors. There is a sports fest named Sarang in which only university students participate in four different groups like Jal, Agni, Vayu and Prithvi, so there is no competition. Many fests are organised here like tech fest named Titiksha, cultural fest named Resurgence, management fest named Tatva and Artha. In fests, there is no participation from other college students and no funding provided by the dean. The administration is not good, and they are getting fund from UGC board and also from the J&K government. They charge the fee equal to private colleges, but when students ask for funds, they say they don't have money for fests. Connectivity of the university is worst as you have to take a bus from Jammu to Domail, and you have to take a minibus to university. No other option is available apart from coming from Katra in which you also have to take the minibus. Students book a private vehicle, but can't afford it if you have to go alone. Mini-buses stop working after 7 PM, so you can't come to the university after that. There are also some clubs like a coding club, dance club, music club, photography club, and literature club. Coding club is good as many students clear google summer of code. Girls can't go out from hostels after 8:00 PM, and they can't even come to the library after that. The administration closed the library after 8:00 PM, but they have a poster outside the library showing open 24x7. Only the study room is open for 24x7. There is the main gym and two gyms in the university out of which one is for boys and one is for girls. Campus surroundings are good as the atmosphere is best. This university got recognition because it has its name associated with the holy temple, and due to this, many big leaders come to this university. They didn't earn a reputation for academic excellence. This university provides scholarships to only meritorious students. The administration can't even handle a fee portal. You have to do self-study. I don't suggest joining this university as its academic environment is worst. You won't get any assistance from seniors or professors. This university needs reformation as they need to change their administration and entrance exam.
