VIT Chennai admission to PhD course is based on entrance-exam. The institute conducts VITREE for admission to PhD course. VITREE is a computer-based test of two hours conducted at the test venue opted by the candidate. Selected candidates are further called for a personal interview round. 

Candidates must pass a master’s degree in relevant discipline with a minimum of 60% aggregate or a CGPA 6.5 on a 10 point scale to apply for VIT Chennai PhD programme. Besides, aspirants must also qualify VITREE followed by a personal interview round for admission.

Candidates seeking admission to the BTech programme at VIT Chennai must take the VIT Engineering Entrance Examination (VITEEE) as VIT Chennai accepts admission for the BTech courses only through VITEEE. Candidates must fill out the VITEEE application form through VIT Chennai's official website and should take the exam. Those who qualify for the VITEEE exam can apply for the counselling process followed by document verification and fee payment for final seat allotment in the applied programme.

Candidates must complete Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics/ Biology with at least 60% aggregate (50% aggregate for SC/ ST and applicants hailing from Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh and the North Eastern states of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura.) to apply for VIT Chennai BTech programme. 

Age Limit

Candidates whose date of birth falls on or after 1st July 2003 are eligible to apply for VITEEE-2025.Candidates who fail to produce this certificate in original as proof of their age at the time of counselling, shall stand disqualified.

Nationality

The applicant for VITEEE should be a Resident / Non-Resident Indian National / OCI / PIO Holder.
