Jamia Millia Islamia offers a full-time PhD programme for a five-year duration in more than 56 specialisations. These PhD specialisations are offered across all the departments of JMI in both regular and self-financed mode. The University conducts an entrance test, namely JMI Entrance Exam for PhD admissions. However, UGC NET/ CSIR NET/ GATE-qualified candidates are also granted admission based on their performance in PI round and research proposal.

Jamia Millia Islamia PhD Admission 2021
Jamia PhD admissions are based on candidates’ performance in a written test conducted by JMI, followed by an interview round and evaluation of research proposal. Candidates have to secure at least 50% marks each in both Section A and B to qualify the test and appear for further rounds. The following category of candidates shall be exempted from appearing in the entrance test for the PhD admission:
- Candidates who have qualified UGC NET/ CSIR NET/ SLET/ GATE or have successfully completed MPhil from a recognised university/ institute
- The teacher fellowship holders provided that the competent employing authority issues a NOC to the candidate to join the PhD programme and an undertaking that the candidate will be granted leave for the duration of the required coursework

Jamia Millia Islamia is considered to be one of the top universities to pursue undergraduate, postgraduate, and advanced Diploma programmes, and students from all around the country and abroad aspire to be a part of this renowned university. Jamia conducts JMI Entrance Examfor admission to most of its undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Each year the bar is raised and the exam along with the competition only becomes tougher. To successfully clear the JMI Entrance Exam, candidates have to study hard, prepare well, know the exam pattern, marking scheme and the syllabusthoroughly. A candidate must put in plenty of time and dedication to ace the exam. A step-by-step preparation strategy for the exam is as follows:
- Know the JMI Entrance Exam syllabus thoroughly.
- Understand the JMI Entrance Exam pattern and marking scheme and prepare accordingly.
- Get all the study material for Jamia Millia Islamia Entrance Exams such as prep books and previous years' question papers to help better understand what to expect in the exam.
- Create a monthly timetable on how much material to cover daily.
- Solve question papers, sample papers and mock tests.
JMI selection criteria includes shortlisting of candidates on the basis of scores obtained in JMI exam. For some courses candidates are required to also appear for Group Discussion (GD) and Personal Interview (PI). The cut off for each course is released after the selection procedure is over and candidates are called for counselling and document verification. Jamia Millia Islamia Seat Reservation 2021
Jamia Millia Islamia offers seat reservation in almost all the courses based on the category of the students. The details regarding the same are enlisted below:

NOTE:
- If seats remain vacant in the categories of women applicants and OBC-NCL, then those seats will be transferred to the Muslim minority category.
- No seats are available in the BDS course for Kashmiri Migrants and candidates belonging to Jammu and Kashmir
- For BArch programme, no seats are available for foreign candidates
- NCC Cadets and NSS Volunteers will be eligible for a relaxation of 5% and 2%, respectively in the aggregate of the qualifying examination.
Jamia Millia Islamia Scholarships 2021
The University offers several scholarships on a merit and needs basis. The details regarding some of the JMI scholarships are given below:
- Jamia Merit Scholarship: The top scorers of the respective exams are eligible for this scholarship.
- Merit Scholarship for the Centre of Management: This scholarship is given to MBA first and second-semester students. The top scorers of semester exams are awarded this scholarship.
- SC/ST/OBC Scholarship: This scholarship is given to the reserved category candidates. Economically weak candidates are also eligible for this scholarship.
- Scholarship for International Exchange Programme: Candidates who are selected for the International Exchange Programme are eligible for this scholarship. This scholarship is offered by the Centre for Management Studies.
Apart from the above scholarships, students can also apply for other scholarships offered at Jamia. Some of them are listed below:
Like all other exams, the minimum marks have been set for the candidates to qualify in the Jamia Millia Islamia entrance exam. As per the general guidelines released by the university, candidates obtaining less than 15% marks in the Objective Type/ Multiple Choice questions will not be shortlisted for interview/admission. Similarly, candidates obtaining less than 30% marks in the descriptive part of the Entrance Test, wherever applicable, will not be shortlisted for interview/ admission. As the minimum qualifying marks are fixed, the candidates should prepare themselves in such a way that they can get more than the prescribed marks in the exam and get selected for the next level.
The eligibility criteria for each course is different. Candidates are advised to check the eligibility criteria before applying for the Jamia Millia Islamia Entrance Exam. For Undergraduate course, candidates must have passed Intermediate with at least 50 per cent marks from any board and for Masters course, graduate degree with at least 50 per cent marks from any recognised university is required.

Yes, Mathematics is a compulsory subject for JMI BTech admission. As BTech courses offered at this university are in the specialisations that require applicants to have a foundational understanding of the course. Thus, completing HSC with PCM is necessary for enrollment.
