To do well in the IPMAT exam, aspirants must be thorough with the IIM Indore IPM syllabus 2026. The IPMAT syllabus is spread across three sections of the IIM Indore IPM question paper. The sections are:

  • Quantitative Ability (Multiple Choice Question- MCQ): The QA (MCQ) section of the IPMAT exam has 25 multiple-choice questions. The candidates will have four choices and they will be required to choose the correct answer. This QA section will have negative markings. Four marks will be awarded for each correct answer and one mark will be deducted for each incorrect answer. 

  • Quantitative Ability(Short Answer Question- SA): The Quantitative Ability sections of the IPMAT exam will also have a QA (Short-Answer Type Questions) section. The QA sections test the candidate’s understanding of mathematics and numerical ability. There will be no negative marking for this section. 

  • Verbal Ability (Multiple Choice Question-MCQ): The Verbal Ability section in the IIM Indore IPM syllabus tests the student’s proficiency in the English language skills and to ace this section, students should focus on improving their vocabulary and grammar use.

IPMAT Exam Pattern 2026

The IPMAT exam pattern is similar to most of the BBA entrance exams in terms of the overall exam structure. The IPMAT question paper 2026 includes multiple-choice questions as well as short answers. Check below the highlights of the IPMAT exam pattern 2026:

  • All the sections in the IPMAT question paper are mandatory to attempt.
  • Four marks will be awarded for every correct attempt and one mark will be deducted for an incorrect answer.

IPMAT is a speed-based test which is designed to assess a candidate's quantitative aptitude skills and command over English langauge and comprehension skills. These are the subjects which the students have studied in Class 9 to Class 12, just that the in the IPMAT exam, students need to practice these at a slightly advanced level. 

Students can crack the IPMAT exam by brushing up the basics and practicing concepts with advance level problems. Applicants should solve previous years' question papers, attempt an ample number of mock tests and be consistent to score well in the IPMAT exam.

Having said that, the preparation for the IPMAT exam requires focus, dedication and diligence. If you can do that, despite being an average student, you can crack the IPMAT exam easily. A good preparation strategy can help you crack the IPMAT exam with a good score. Generally, the toughest section of the IPMAT question paper is Quantitative Aptitude (Short Answers). But with daily practice and focusing on understanding the fundamentals, this section of the IPMAT exam can be handled easily. For the Verbal Ability section, students must focus on Grammar and solving various mock tests to improve their vocabulary. 

Q:   What is the IPMAT exam duration and slot?
A: 

The IPMAT exam is held for two hours or 120 minutes. There is only one slot for the IPMAT exam. IPMAT exam also has a sectional time limit of 40 minutes per section. The candidates need to solve the question paper in 120 minutes and this means that the candidates will have approximately two minutes to solve each question. Candidates must take care of saving their answers at every step as the moment 40 minutes get over, the screen will automatically redirect to the next section. The test will end automatically once 120 minutes of the test are over. The IPMAT exam is conducted in the afternoon shift. Also, there is no provision for changing the exam slot. Candidates must make sure that they reach the IPMAT exam centre at least an hour before the commencement of the examination in order to complete the frisking formalities at the entry gate. Candidates will not be allowed to enter the exam centre 15 minutes before the exam time.

There are three sections in the IPMAT question paper, I. e. two sections on Quantitative Aptitude and one section on Verbal Ability. Each section is to be solved within 40 minutes. Since IPMAT is a centre-based online exam the test screen will move from first section to the next section automatically as soon as the time limit gets over. Thus candidates have to be mindful of the on-screen timer and pre-decide the number of questions to solve in each section. It is not mandatory to solve all the questions in IPMAT exam so candidates can devise a strategy to use 40 minutes per section as per their strength and weakness. Candidates must also keep in mind the negative marking in the IPMAT exam. One mark will be deducted from the overall score for each incorrect answer.
