Best IIT for opting for core fields.

Placements: The placement of my branch is best among others because this college is mainly known for Mining of petroleum and Metallurgy as well as material engineering. Almost 90% students are placed every year with an average package of 12 LPA that goes to 34 LPA. Companies that come for this branch are mostly PSUs like Bharat Petroleum, ONGC, Indian Oil, and many more. Internships are offered to 80% students. They hire for a System Engineer and a manager role.

Infrastructure: The infrastructure of my branch is average, not good like other IITs. Basic classrooms without a projector, Wi-Fi enabled campus, but with low speed. The library of this college is very big and has a large number of books. Hostel facilities are average, the canteen and mess food are not good in taste, but you can manage it. Medical and sports facilities are good, and students get opportunities to show their talent.

Faculty: Faculty are very well qualified and knowledgeable, as it should be in IITs. Every faculty is supporting students where they need guidance. Curriculum are much relevant to modern technology, and the application of theories is well executed in labs. Semester exams are not easy if you do not study from the start. Those who prepare earlier get passes easily. The numbers would be 90%.

My honest review about my college.

Placements: The placements used to be top-notch 2-3 years back. But with the increase of seats and slowdown in the mining sector, the job opportunities were not as good as before. Many reputed companies like KPMG, TATA Steel, PWC, Tata Consultant Engineers, Tega Industries, and Aditya Birla recruited through this branch. The maximum pay is 10 LPA, with an average around 4.5 LPA. I got selected for RINL Visakhapatnam for an internship. It was a non-stipend internship. Tata Steel also came for internships, and they eventually offered PPOs to some of the selected ones.

Infrastructure: There are 6 hostels for males and 2 for females. All the hostels are good, but I love Diamond Hostel because of the heritage it has. The rooms are spacious, and you need to share the room with one person. The hostel fees are included in your semester registration. The course curriculum is pretty good. It is well-structured and helps the students in getting a better understanding of the entire field.

Faculty: The course is basically about mineral processing techniques and the engineering involved in those processes. It is under the Fuel and Mineral Engineering department, which has good lab and research facilities. The faculty members are very qualified in the past, but since the last 2 years, some good professors have left, creating a void.

Review of IIT Dhanbad (ISM) - Indian Institute of Technology (ISM).

Placements: 80-85% of the students were placed in the course with highest international package of 27-30 lpa and highest domestic package of 25 lpa. Lowest is 6 lpa and average is 12.5 lpa. Top recruiting companies are ONGC, Cairn Oil and gas, RIL, etc. Internships are offered to 70% of students. Top roles offered are drilling engineer, reservoir engineer, production engineer, etc.

Infrastructure: Good Wi-Fi, well-equipped labs for each course and infrastructure is okayish. Hostel quality is not at all good for first years. Though it increases in 2nd year. Mess food is just okayish. A medical center can be accessed by directly going there or by just calling ambulance. Sports facilities inside hostel are there as well.

Faculty: Teachers are good, PhD holders from renowned institutions but I don't find them good at teaching. Curriculum taught is relevant and makes students industry-ready. Semester exams are not that tough (mainly from PYQs). Question level is not that challenging.

I recommend this branch if you want to enter the petroleum industry.

Placements: More than 60% of students got placed every year in core companies, and a few in other fields. The highest package go around 35 LPA in non core and 25 LPA for core companies. Some of the best companies are British Petroleum, ONGC, Chevron, and SLB. More than 30% of students got internships in companies like, British Petroleum, SLB, Cairn. Roles offered are reservoir engineer, consultant, drilling engineer, production engineer, etc.

Infrastructure: Wi-Fi is available in almost every part of the college. Labs are up to the latest technology, classrooms are very comfortable and air-conditioned. Library is one of the best among all colleges in India. It is the second-largest technical library in Asian. Hostel facilities are at the top. The new hostel for boys called the aquamarine hostel has all the modern facilities like vending machines, canteen, huge rooms and all modern facilities that a student desire. There are common rooms that can be accessed by students anytime.

Faculty: Teachers are good. They teach all the concepts. Still, many students prefer to study on their own from the internet. But still, course curriculum is very much relevant to the current industry. The skills that are required in the industry are well taught here. Semester exams are moderate to difficult level.

Other: I chose this course because the petroleum industry is very big in itself. And the placements of this branch in this college is one of the best. Fests are very grand, featuring many stars every year. Everyone enjoy alot and they eagerly wait for the fest every year.

Good placement, satisfying faculty, good infrastructure, and facilities.

Placements: In my course, around 80% of students are placed and it will surely reach above 85 as in past years this percentage used to be around 100. In my course, the highest package offered is 42 lakhs and the lowest is 8 lacs. Top recruiting companies are SLB, Exxon Mobile, Meesho, etc. During internship season around 50% of students got internships in companies like Cairn, SLB, Microsoft, and many more. The top roles mostly offered are in core petroleum like reservoir engineer and production engineer but if you are willing to be a software engineer then some people get placed in good companies like Microsoft.

Infrastructure: Girls' hostels have big rooms and fast-speed Wi-Fi available in the hostel. You will get good quality food, fast-speed Wi-Fi available on the whole campus, best library. I am is known for the biggest teaching library in Asia, it is where I have spent my maximum time, in interactive classrooms. Professors solve doubts immediately you can ask them in between really good. The quality of education is provided. The food is good. Medical, sports, and games facilities are available in our college.

Faculty: Professors teaching this course are among the best. They are helpful and qualified, and the curriculum is highly relevant to the industry, particularly for petroleum studies. Semester exams are at a moderate level, allowing students to easily balance their studies with extracurricular activities. The pass percentage is 98%, so it's very rare for someone to fail.

How would you describe the life in ISM in terms of campus life, security around the surroundings , places to explore etc.?

IIT, Dhanbad is one of the peaceful campus with lot of greenery around. Campus provides us with all opportunities in the field of sports, music as well as technology. Campus is secured as well as anti-ragging campus. Dhanbad has many tourist places like Maithon dam, Parasnath, etc. around it.

If you are going for better, you should look out for economics at IIT-khadagpur. But it is all based on your interests. These are all not mainstream branches as per now, but all are equivalently good as you will be graduating from IITs. So for me economic IIT-khadagpur > petroleum IIT dhanbad > Math

See everytime basis of marks shifts a lot, so exactly how mch marks you should score that totally depends on the advance you are appearing. But score around 50% should be enough. Rank around 5000 (bottom mark) would be enough to get you enrolled in btech mechanical in ism. Rank around 6500 will get
