JEE advanced exam focus on the implementation of the concept in daily life. So it is suggested to practice questions related to real-life examples.

JEE-Advanced is the exam that students have to appear after JEE Main. The score achieved in JEE-Advanced is valid for admission premium institutions such as Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and other A-grade institutions. There are approximately 10,988 seats available for this competition. The JEE Advanced is conducted and coordinated by seven different IITs (Roorkee, Delhi, Kharagpur, Kanpur, Bombay, Madras, and Guwahati) on a yearly and rotational basis. All policies and guidelines of the exam are set by the Joint Admission Board (JAB). Last year this exam was conducted by IIT, Roorkee.

In 2020, JEE Main results will be declared in the fourth week of April which will be followed by the opening of the JEE-Advanced registration in the first week of May. The JEE-Advanced examination will be held in the fourth week of May 2020. The result will be declared in the second week of June 2020.

JEE Advanced Eligibility

The aspirant, who plans to appear for JEE Advanced, should attain the rank in the top 2.45 lakh, including all the categories (as per decided by the government and concerned regulating authorities). The aspirant should have cleared Class XII not more than a year before the JEE-Advanced exam. As far as the age is concerned, it varies from category to category. In the case of the General category, the aspirant should be less than 25 years of age. In the case of SC/ST and PWD aspirants, the age limit is extended up to five years that is these aspirants can appear up to 30 years of age.

There is a limitation in terms of several times you can appear for the exam. A maximum of two times an aspirant is allowed in two consecutive years. Another condition is that the candidate should not have accepted /taken admission in any of the IITs before this very attempt.

Important JEE Main, JEE Advanced Books

The right choice of study material plays a vital role in your preparation. What to study? Which book to follow? What is relevant? Which author has written as per your convenience? An aspirant should have the answer to all these questions before you start the preparation. In my opinion, NCERT books are the best resource to use after completing the syllabus from NCERT you can go for other reference books available for JEE.

Preparation tips for JEE Advanced:

Your daily list of preparation should include the following:

  1. Prepare your own notes for the topics you have laid out for study
  2. Try to solve as many numerical as you can be related to the topics you have chosen
  3. Solve sample and practice papers on a regular basis.

Concepts will help you to solve numerically: In JEE advanced just mechanical retention of content will not result into good score. You need to concentrate more on understanding the concept rather than mugging it up. Solving maximum number of tough numerical will help you in improving your efficiency in completing the paper in time. Development of high order thinking is essential these days. JEE advanced exam focus on implementation of concept in daily life. So it is suggested to practice questions related to real life examples. Previous year questions will give you the idea of the same.

From lower to higher-order: After clearing JEE Main you are sure that you are clear with basics, now it’s time for you to take difficult questions and concepts. At this stage, it is suggested to go through the difficult topics. The comfort zone you have made try to move out of it in terms of problem solving skills.

Create a competitive and motivational environment: Build an environment to prepare for JEE Advanced exam. Group or peer study will help you to be motivated all the time and it will maintain your competitive spirit high throughout your preparation session. It is not only about having competition but when like-minded people work for a common goal, it brings a healthy enthusiasm. Friends help each other in improving their strengths and reduce their weaknesses to attain the common objective.

What if you get less marks in JEE Advanced?

If you get less marks in JEE advanced, then also you have good chances to get admission in good colleges at par with IITs. Few institutions, which consider JEE Advanced score, are as follows:

  1. Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum and Technology
  2. Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISERs)
  3. The Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore (IISC)
