The Krishna University (KRU) and the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT-B) recently signed a pact to introduce the “Spoken Tutorials”, an initiative of the National Mission on Education by the Ministry of Human Resource Development. The MoU was signed on Monday by KRU’s Vice Chancellor S. Rama Krishna Rao and IIT-Bombay’s official Momammed Khasim Khan, at the university’s campus.

Spoken Tutorials was introduced in the move to promote IT literacy through Open Source Software. It is all about learning through the Audio-Visuals. IIT-B has already developed an audio/visual content in English and other regional languages and all the courses are being offered free of cost. The existing students enrolled to science, computer science, life sciences, physics and chemistry and other courses will have the access to computer languages and other computing skills through the Spoken Tutorial.

Speaking on the pact, Mr. Khan stated, “The courses being offered at the Spoken Tutorials have been recognized by the National Assessment and Accredited Council. The courses designed by the IIT-B are most sought after by the industry, including renowned software companies”. Further adding to the statement, he said, “We have trained 1.2 lakh students on various computer languages and computing skills through the Spoken Tutorial, which are completely an open learning source, in Andhra Pradesh in the last six years. The IIT-B’s Spoken Tutorial will issue certificate for those who complete the respective course”.
