During the placement season, many companies from various industries visited the college campus to offer internships and most of the internship offered by them were paid ones.

What is an Internship?

We can define internship as a work experience offered by the companies to the students to get some exposure to the work environment in the industry and about the job role. There is no fixed specific duration for an internship, few of them are paid and others are unpaid.

Is the internship required in my course?

I have pursued my B.Tech Degree in Mechanical Engineering from National Institute of Technology, Silchar and there were two internships compulsory in my course.

If the student is not able to complete two internships before the placement season, he or she will not be allowed to sit for placements.

During the placement season, many companies from various industries visited the college campus to offer internships and most of the internship offered by them were paid ones.

Some of the top companies who visited the college campus to offer internships were: Tata, Larsen & Turbo from the core sectors and Amazon, Goldman Sachs, GoIbibo, TCS & Infosys from the IT Sector.

Projects undertaken during the Internship to benefit placements:

The students who got offers for internships in the core sector worked on different projects during their internships. The projects undertaken during internships benefitted them during placements; because they were asked to give a brief description of the projects during their interviews and the interviewer asked so many questions about the projects.

During interviews, the employers ask questions to the candidates about their projects just to check their seriousness during their work, their teamwork abilities and behavioural analysis.

And the students who were offered internships in the IT Sector got to work on real-time projects during their internships and this directly benefitted them during their placement interviews because it was a work experience for them.

Are there any off-campus placement activities?

No, there were no off-campus placement activities because of the following reasons:

  • National Institute of Technology, Silchar is a premier institute and placement opportunity for students during college placements is quite good in numbers and Some students got even more than two job offers.
  • The college has a Training & Placement Cell and well-trained Training & Placement Coordinators who approach the HR Managers of various companies to visit for the college placements.
  • If some of the companies are not willing to visit the college for campus placements, then the Training & Placement Cell of the college manages to organize pool-campus placement activities in other colleges.

Still, if any student wants to go for off-campus placement, then there is no restriction from the college side.
