There are many private universities as well which is equivalent to government institutions which are worth the money and time.

In JEE Mains, opting for a 'drop' year has it's own pros and cons. Hence, it is truly depending upon the student to decide whether one should drop a year or not. In this article, I will share my experience regarding my exam results, discuss whether to take a drop or not and help you with the best possible options with both scenarios.

In my opinion, drop year is only worth if you are targeting for an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) i.e. wanting to crack JEE Advanced. In our country, National Institutes of Technology (NITs) are not so well-maintained and are upgraded in terms of curriculum and infrastructure that it's worth spending a whole year on it. I had visited NIT Surathkal, NIT Jalandhar and NIT Rourkela. One should definitely opt for other options (these are mentioned at the bottom).  If you are aiming for JEE Advanced, then drop will be worth, if you feel you can easily crack it. You can analyse this based on your preparations and marks.

Another option is to join institutions that accept low score. After Main, there are various other exams for state universities one can go for. Also, in today's era, there are many private universities as well which is equivalent to these government institutions which are worth the money and time. Below is the list of some good institutions one can get through low JEE Main marks or by cracking their own entrance.

You can opt for these colleges if you are not getting top five NITs. Also, while filling form in counselling make sure you get a better college but try for the best branch. Branch is more important than college as it will be with you throughout your life.

While choosing a college, look for the following points:

  1. Previous-year placements
  2. Alumni network
  3. Infrastructure and residential facilities

And according to your convenience, fee and accessibility from your hometown. The biggest advantage of a government college over a private college would be, government college has less restriction and better student quality. But, govt. colleges these days have outdated curriculum and unnecessary writing assignments and exams that have least practical application and mainly theory work to do. In the end, you can choose your dream campus based upon this or if you want to give it a try, go for a drop year.

At Lovely Professional University, you can take admission in BTech CSE through their own test called LPUNEST or based on your 12th marks.

JEE is not compulsory, but if you have a good JEE score, it can help you get admission and scholarship.
