NDA 2026: The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) will shortly release the NDA 1 admit card 2026 prior ten days of the examination date. The NDA 1 exam 2026 will be conducted on April 12, 2026 at various centres across the country. Candidates need to carry their NDA admit card to the examination hall. It is a mandatory document. Without it, candidate will not be able to take the exam. The UPSC allot the NDA exam centre on the first apply first allot basis. There will be no option to change the exam centre. The NDA 2026 exam will be conducted offline.

The application form filling process for NDA 1 2026 closed on December 30. NDA 1 notification was released in PDF form. The exam will be conducted for admission to the Army, Navy and Air Force wings of the NDA for the 157th Course and for the 119th Indian Naval Academy Course (INAC) commencing from January 1, 2027. 

NDA 2 2026 notification will be released on May 20. The last date to fill the application form is June 9, 2026. The exam will be held on September 14. Read below for more details on the exam.

What is NDA exam?

UPSC National Defence Academy examination is one of the most sought-after defence exams in the country to select candidates for admission to the National Defence Academy and Indian Naval Academy courses. NDA & NA exam is conducted twice a year to select eligible male and female candidates. NDA selection process comprises written exam and SSB interview. Candidates can check about NDA below.

NDA Full Form

Full Form of NDA stands for National Defence Academy. The exam is conducted to select candidates for admission to the Army, Navy, and Air Force wings of the National Defence Academy and Naval Academy. The National Defence Academy & Naval Academy examination is a prestigious defence entrance exam. Another NDA full form also stands for the National Democratic Alliance. One is the defence entrance exam, and the other is the political party.

Location

The National Defence Academy (NDA) is located in Khadakwasla, Pune, Maharashtra, India. It is the first tri-colour academy that trains male and female cadets together for NDA Army, Navy and Air Force. After passing out from the organisation, candidates are trained in the respective service academies-Air Force Academy, Indian Naval Academy, Indian Military Academy.

NDA Exam Centres List

The examination authority releases the list of test cities along with the notification. Candidates are required to select the test at the time of application. The details related to the address of NDA exam centres are mentioned in the admit card. Candidates are required to appear for the exam at the centres allotted by the examination authority. Centres are allotted as per first-cum-first apply basis. In case the number of students at a particular centre is full, the same will be frozen. NDA Syllabus & Exam Pattern 2026

NDA syllabus is prescribed by UPSC. The standard of the syllabus is of high school level. UPSC NDA/NA syllabus carries subjects such as Maths and GAT. Candidates need to be thorough with the syllabus to score good in the exam. It is necessary to be thorough with the NDA syllabus. SSB Interview: Know its Different Stages

SSB Interview comprises two stages.

  • Stage 1 comprises Officer Intelligence Rating (OIR) tests and Picture Perception and Description Test (PP&DT).
  • Stage 2 of SSB interview comprises Group Testing Officer Tasks, Psychology Tests, and the Conference. The SSB interview carries 900 marks.

NDA 2 online form 2026 will be released on May 20. The last date to fill the application form is June 9, 2026. Students need to apply online only for NDA exam 2026. The application fee is INR 100. NDA Notification 2026

UPSC NDA 1 official notification PDF was released on December 10, 2025. NDA II notification 2026 will be released on May 20, 2026. The notification is released for the recruitment of male and female candidates to the Army, Navy and Air Force wings of NDA and INAC. NDA Eligibility 2026

Candidates need to fulfil the following NDA eligibility criteria 2026 in order to be eligible for the exam:

  • NDA Age Limit: Only unmarried male/female candidates born not earlier than 01st Jul 2007 and not later than 01st July 2010 are eligible
  • NDA Marital Status: Only unmarried male and female candidates can apply for the exam.

NDA Cutoff 2026

NDA cutoff for the written exam will be released after the completion of recruitment process. The commission releases cutoffs for written exam and SSB Interview. The cutoff for the written exam is calculated out of 900. The final cutoff is calculated based on the marks secured by the last recommended candidates out of 1800 marks (900 marks of written exam and 900 marks of SSB Interview). The qualifying cutoff marks prescribed for each subject are 25 per cent. Candidates are required to qualify the exam by securing separate cutoff marks in the written exam and SSB Interview.

NDA Answer Key 2026

The answer key of NDA exam 2026 will be released after completion of the test. Answer keys will be provided separately for Maths and GAT. Candidates can download NDA Answer Key for test booklets-A, B, C, D. The answer keys that are released on the exam day are made available by the coaching institiutes. The official keys by UPSC are released after the completion of the recruitment process. The UPSC will not release the official answer key as it will be released after the declaration of final result in October 2026.

NDA Salary

Candidates selected through NDA written exam and SSB are given admission to the National Defence Academy and Indian Naval Academy courses. During training, the candidates are given the title of Gentlemen cadets. The stipend given to them is INR 56,100. Once the training is completed, they are offered the Commissioned Officer post and the salary is paid as per Level 10. They are also given various allowances and benefits.

On successful commissioning in Army, candidates are given the rank of Lieutenant. In Navy, candidates are given the rank of Sub Lieutenant. In Air Force, candidates are given the rank of Flying Officer. The starting NDA salary of an Officer is INR 56,100. This is the stipend offered to the candidates during the training period and the minimum salary that a Lieutenant gets. It keeps on increasing as per the level of the post.

Q:   What is the current NDA salary during the entire duration of training in Service academies?
A: 

NDA salary during the entire duration of training is INR 56,100. Candidates starting salary during the training period and in the initial phase of their job. Over time, the post and salary of NDA officers keep increasing based on their performance and experience. The NDA salary per month for the Lieutenant post ranges from INR 56,100 to 1,77,500, while the highest salary for NDA Officer is INR 2,50,000 per month for the Chief of Army Staff.

Q:   What is the insurance policy given to the selected cadets in NDA?
A: 

Army group insurance fund cover is INR 15 Lakh. An ex-gratia amount of INR 12.5 Lacs or INR 9,000 per month is paid to the NoK. 

Q:   What is Army Group Insurance policy for NDA Officers?
A: 

Army Group Insurance Fund provides insurance cover of INR 15 Lacs on payment of one time non-refundable premium of INR 7,200 (subject to revision from time to time) by cadets from the date of joining for pre-commission training i.e. for 3 years. 

Q:   What is pre-commissioning stipend for NDA Gentlemen Cadets?
A: 

The Lady/Gentlemen Cadets during pre commission trg when in receipt of stipend are insured for INR One Cr as applicable to officers of the regular Army. Monthly AGIF subscription will be deducted directly by PCDA (O), Pune. For those who are invalidated out by Invalidated Medical Board (IMB) on account of disability and not entitled to any pension will be provided INR 25 Lacs for 100 percent disability. This will be proportionately reduced to INR 5 Lacs for 20 percent disability. However, for less than 20 percent disability, an ex-gratia grant of INR 50,000 only will be paid. Disability due to alcoholism, drug addiction
and due to the diseases of pre-enrolment origin will not qualify for disability benefit and ExGratia Grant. In addition, Lady/Gentleman Cadets withdrawn on disciplinary grounds, expelled  as an undesirable or leaving the Academy voluntarily will not be eligible for disability benefits and Ex-Gratia. 

Q:   What is the purpose of the NDA syllabus?
A: 

NDA syllabus is prescribed by the examination authority. The syllabus comprises the topics that candidates need to prepare for the exam. The first and foremost step towards preparation is going through the syllabus. Knowing the syllabus helps candidates to plan a strategy to ace the exam, thereby, giving them the right direction for preparation. NDA syllabus has two sections for the written exam, General Ability Test (GAT) and Mathematics. GAT aims to test the candidate's basic knowledge of History, GK, Current Affairs of National and International Events, English, Science, and Geography. On the other hand, the Mathematics paper of NDA comprises questions based on Class 12. The GAT paper holds the maximum weightage in the syllabus. 

 

Q:   Are NDA and CDS syllabus same?
A: 

NDA exam is conducted for admission to the Army, Navy and Air Force wings of National Defence Academy and Indian Naval Academy Course. CDS exam is conducted to select eligible candidates for Indian Military Academy (IMA), Indian Naval Academy (INA), Air Force Academy (AFA) and Officers Training Academy (OTA).

The level of NDA syllabus is of Class 10, 11 and 12 levels. Whereas the standard of CDS syllabus is of graduation level. NDA syllabus is divided into Maths and GAT. CDS syllabus is divided into Elementary Maths, English and General Awareness. The total marks allotted to the NDA written exam are 900. The total marks allotted to the written exam of CDS are 300 for IMA, INA and AFA and 200 for OTA.

NDA exam is conducted every year twice in a year. The exam is conducted to select candidates for admission to Army, Navy and Air Force wings of NDA and Indian Naval Academy courses. Q:   What is the difference between NDA 1 and 2 exams?
A: 

There is no difference between UPSC NDA 1 and 2 exams. NDA 1 exam is conducted for admission to the January batch. Whereas, NDA 2 exam is conducted for admission to July batch.
